lightbox : ballerina brides …

From the moment she entered the studio you knew that Krista, one of our May 2013 brides, was a dancer. Her natural gracefulness and impeccable posture were present during her entire 90-minute trial run … her bright personality is just as perfect.

Krista opted for a very classic and clean look – a high bun fit for a princess ballerina and fresh glowing skin topped with a daring lip.

And the style did not stop there, we LOVED her choice of a mint blazer to top her gown while traipsing about for her photos. Love. Love. Love.

The team at BP would like to wish our Ballerina bride Krista and her husband a lifetime of love and happiness. Thank you for choosing us to be a part of your big day.

stuff from (l’il) steph: stila smudge stick waterproof eyeliner

The Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner in Turquoise is a part of the Stila Limited Edition Festival Collection for Summer 2013. I’m a huge fan of Stila smudge sticks in general and in terms of formula, I couldn’t find any fault with turquoise. It’s pigmented in one swipe, very creamy, and did not tug on my eyelids in the least bit. It’s definitely waterproof, but nothing that a simple eye makeup remover can’t handle. Additionally, it’s retractable so you don’t have to dig through your beauty tools to find a sharpener. Last but not least, the colour… is gorgeous!

I’m going to honest here. My first thought when I saw the colour of the eyeliner was What the heck am I supposed do with this?” But after thinking it over for a while, I found that Stila’s Turquoise eye liner is actually quite wearable and just as versatile as any old black eye liner pencil (but 10x the colour and 10x the fun).

In the photos, I used it…

  • on the upper lash line for winged liner
  • on the lower waterline for a pop of colour
  • all over the lid as an eye shadow

Additionally, you could use it…

  • on the inner corner of the eye
  • as an eye shadow base to make eye shadows stand out

All in all, a great product in a beautiful shade that’s perfect for summer.

brothers and angels

Was my post from July 1, 2013 ironic …? A slip that me announcing to blog more would never come to fruition this month?

I actually wrote that declaration the Friday before – June 28th, 2013. I was gung ho, ready to start a fresh month and had a renewed plan to stay on top of the blog as much as I do the makeup and hair side of things. I remember writing that post, and preparing the following post afterwards, scheduling them, and feeling accomplished. I was looking forward to taking the weekend to write more posts for the week and get ahead of the game. Sunday and Monday were open days and unbooked for me to write, edit, photoshop and post. And then my husband and I got a call Saturday evening that changed everything. Continue reading

stuff from (l’il) steph: flamed out mascara by COVERGIRL

Mascara… The product I love to hate. A little insight into my relationship with mascara… my Asian genes have blessed /cursed me with stubby, stick straight, stubborn lashes. I have three options in the matter:

Waterproof mascara. This consists of a tedious struggle of removal at the end of the day. After the struggle I end up with fewer lashes than I started with.

Non-waterproof mascara. This includes droopy lashes and black smudges all over my face in places I never knew mascara could be.

No mascara. This option isn’t even feasible. My natural lashes lack the volume and length that any mascara provides.

… Since the beginning of time, I have not found mascara that works perfectly for my picky lashes. Every time I open a new tube, I ask myself “is this the one?”

The CoverGirl Flamed Out Mascara in 300 Very Black Blaze claims : “The Volume Igniter Brush from COVERGIRL is specially designed to add volume to every lash for bigger, thicker, and fuller lashes to help maximize volume.”

I always curl my lashes before applying mascara and upon coating my lashes with the Flamed Out Mascara, my curl immediately droops. This is due to the slightly wet consistency of the mascara. However, it does create volume and makes my lashes look like there’s at least 3x more than what actually exists. The hourglass shape of the brush makes it easy to target specific areas of my lashes to add more product by holding the brush vertically, but it’s a bit bulky to apply mascara to the bottom lashes. The best part about this mascara is how it wears throughout the day.  Although it isn’t advertised as waterproof, the Flamed Out Mascara lasts the entirety of a 12 hour day without smudging and it’s still easy to take off with a bit of eye makeup remover.

Is this mascara the one? Unfortunately not…however, if you already have wonderfully curly, long lashes that just need a little boost without being overly dramatic, the CoverGirl Flamed Out Mascara would be a fair option for you.
