spotlight on : arianne de guzman

Our latest spotlight features what may be a familiar face for some of you, Arianne de Guzman, a.k.a. the Glitter Geek. Find her on Twitter and Facebook to read up on her adventures in beauty!

Name: Arianne de Guzman

Years with BP: Two

I got into hair and/or makeup artistry because… I’ve been makeup obsessed for years! I read a lot of beauty blogs and watch YouTube videos while procrastinating, and some makeup artist friends of mine told me that I have a little bit o’ talent so I decided to go for it.

My favourite part about being makeup artist is… Bringing out confidence in each client, especially the shy ones! Gosh, that’s so corny, but 100% the truth.

My dream celebrity client: Lily Collins. Those brows! That face!

My secret weapon: MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Brows: for gorgeous brows that won’t fade or melt away.

My must-share beauty tip: My #1 beauty tip isn’t about makeup; it’s on skincare. Use face oils (just not mineral oil!). There’s a face oil for every skin type, and they are so good for the skin. The right oil even on oily skin will normalize it and make it glow pretty!

recos from regina : go-to products

Editor’s note: Please join me in welcoming a new contributor to the BP blog, Regina! Find her on Twitter here. :)

Drawing from many years of trying out different things, attending events such as the BlushPretty Beauty Board and reading some of my favourite blogs like Toronto Beauty Reviews, I’ve pulled together a list of my four go-to beauty products to share with you.

L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara in Blackest Black – I’ve been using this mascara for almost 20 years. What I like about this mascara is it make my eye lashes looks fuller right away without having to use an eyelash curler. You can actually tell that I have lashes once it’s applied!

Kona Kare Luxury Lip Butter Balm – This lip butter balm is used with all natural ingredients, it’s Canadian, and it keeps my lips moisturized. Having my lips moisturized is very important to me especially during this “Polar Vortex” that we’ve been getting hit by lately. I carry their lip butters in my purse, makeup bag, in my coat pocket and beside my bed.

Kiss Products imPRESS Press-On Manicure – This is another go-to for me when I don’t have the time to paint my nails (which is very rare). I tend to change my nail polish everyday or every other day, but there are those rare occasions that I actually don’t have the time to do my nails so these are quick and easy to apply. I’ve had people come up to me to compliment my nails because of the style and colour that I’m using that week.

Pure + Simple Cellular Repair Face Cream – This face cream is great because a little goes a long way and it keeps my face moisturized through out the day. As I get older, I want to keep my skin healthy and glowing before the wrinkles kick in and this product is the perfect solution.

Name: Sacha Parawan

Joined BP in: 2013

I got into hair and/or makeup artistry because… I’ve always had a creative side to me. I found myself attracted to makeup and always wanting to try new things and different looks. You can do so much with makeup and hair…it’s never boring! Who doesn’t want to feel fabulous?

My favourite part about being a hair/makeup artist… is making someone feel glamorous!

My dream celebrity client: Scarlett Johansson…she’s just naturally stunning!

My secret weapon: My NYX lipstick in any shade of red, and of course my MAC Eye Primer.

My must-share beauty tip: It’s not just the face that needs exfoliating…for kissable lips, be sure to exfoliate daily!

musings from morgan : smoky brown eyes

I’ve been a fan of The Body Shop for many years now for so many reasons – from the makeup to body and skincare (heeelloooo, Tea Tree Oil everything) and amazing set of values, I’ve developed a serious affection for the brand. My first recollection of starting to wear eyeshadow on a regular basis involved stealing swipes of my older sister’s Shimmer Cubes (a product they still carry today) on a daily basis, and those got me hooked on my go-to shimmery, gold and brown shades I so frequently fall back on to make my eyes sparkle.

For those of us going for the ever-popular smoky eye, the beloved brand has developed the perfect palette to achieve the look without going overboard – The Four Color Eye Palette in Smoky Brown (or rather, colour, for us Canadians).

I think many people think smoky = black, silver and grey shadows, and as a person who’s not huge on eyeshadow in the first place, I often find that never really works for me. Browns & more neutral shades are a happy medium – I can create a look that makes my eyes pop without making them look small and overdone or feel like I’m wearing a raccoon mask!

The four shades in the palette range from a shimmery champagne shade all the way down to a deep matte brown and two eyeshadow brushes to create your look. The back of the packaging has a how-to guide for those of us who need a little guidance, complete with a clear picture so there’s no confusion.

Personally, these shades are exactly what I’d reach for if I was out shopping for a basic eyeshadow palette. They look great both wet and dry, blend easily and can definitely be used to create day or night looks.

At just $28.00 a palette (that’s just $7.00 per shadow, and it’s even cheaper if you’re lucky and catch them on sale!) they’re a worthwhile purchase, especially if you’re looking to experiment with a smoky eye but aren’t sure where to start!

Disclosure: This product was sent to BlushPretty.com for editorial consideration by the brand’s public relations team. We tested and reviewed the product to share our honest opinion with you (our fabulous readers) and would only ever recommend or review products we truly believe in!
