I recently went into my local Shopper’s Drug Mart and the first thing that caught my eye when I entered the store was the new Sally Hansen Miracle Gel #OMGel polish display. I was told by a store employee that they had just finished the display 10 minutes before I came into the store.
The display of all 47 gel polishes did not make my decision easy with all the pretty colours available. In the end, the colour that came home with me was Birthday Suit.
The Sally Hansen Miracle gel polish consists of two steps. Step 1 is the Gel Color and Step 2 is the Top Coat. It states that it’s “Quick to apply, up to 14 days of color and shine, Easy Removal and no light needed.”
When using the polish what appealed to me was the width of the brush. It applied nicely with no streaks in between coats. To get the desired colour that I was looking for, I used 3 coats on my nails.
In between each application of polish, what I liked about Step 1 and Step 2 is how quickly my nails dried. A light is not needed in the drying process for gel polish and to remove the polish all you need is nail polish remover.
The Sally Hansen Miracle Gel products can currently be found at Shoppers Drug Mart for the retail price of $11.99 each, or each of the 4 different colour sets go for $18.99 each.
You can also purchase it at Wal-Mart, Target, Rexall and Loblaws.
I’m new to nail polish. I wrote at length the other day about my troubles with nail-biting over the years, and while it’s still a nasty habit I haven’t quite shaken just yet, I’ve accepted a temporary solution of sticking with artificial nails to keep up appearances and open the door to playing with even more cosmetics!
And so a love affair with nail polish has begun to blossom. I was excited to try the new NARS nail polish in Bad Influence because in the bottle you can see it’s a beautiful, chic taupe and it’s coming from a trusted beauty brand. While the shade is an old favourite, the formula and bottle is new from NARS meaning better polish and easier application.
I opened it up and found the brush to be wider and flatter than a traditional polish brush, making it easy to swipe on the colour without overdoing it. It was easy to apply and build, and with just two coats my tips were adorned with a high-shine, opaque finish that’s perfect for the transition to fall (which, sadly, is just around the corner). To be honest, the colour kind of reminds me of chocolate milk – the kind you used to make with regular milk and some Nesquik.
The entire line of updated and new polishes are available August 1st at $23 CAD, and this shade is available exclusively at Holt Renfrew. Other shades in the reformulated line are also available at NARS retailers like The Bay, Sephora, Murale and of course, www.narscosmetics.com.

Although we’re heading into the last weekend of July (yikes!), we still officially have a solid two months left of summer to get through, and that means we’re not putting away our shine-combating products any time soon.
While catching up on my reading, I came across a recent roundup of mattifying products from Elle Canada that has me excited all over again for new things to try to eliminate my 3 p.m. afternoon t-zone meltdown. It includes some of my old favourites (hi, Make Up For Ever!) and some products I’ve yet to test drive – something tells me my next trip to Sephora will be a pricey one.
Do you have any products you rely on to manage the summer heat? What’s missing from the slideshow?
Recently, I’ve had the pleasure of trying out some of Mary Kay’s latest offerings from their Mary Kay at Play line of products. With many bold and bright eyeshadows, lip crayons, glosses and more, the products are definitely geared towards those who want to play around a bit with their usual makeup routines.
Two of my favourites I’ve been able to check out include the Bold Fluid Liners and the Triple Layer Tinted Balms.
As a liquid liner obsessed girl, finding these two gems in my hands had me happy dancing all the way home. The two shades I tried, Hello Violet and The Real Teal are bold, bright and so complementary with my eye colour. The applicator is short and stiff, making it easy to control your lines and create the exact shape you’re going for. I drew my classic winged liner and loved the results!
They retail for $12.00 CAD and are available online.
The second product, the Triple Layer Tinted Balms, bring back memories of elementary school because they are the grown-up version of Lip Smacker balms (remember them?). Not only do they taste great, but they’re hydrating, offer just a touch of colour, and add a bit of shine if you’re looking to add a subtle pop to your lips.
Top – Atomic Red
Bottom – Orange You Lovely
These also retail for $12.00 CAD each and are a great addition to any purse, desk or makeup bag!
Have you tried any of the new Mary Kay at Play products? What do you think of the line?

My role with BP: Blog Contributor
How I got into working with BP: I heard about Steph and BP through Elaine [Atkins] (who I’ve known for a few years now through Avon and being an avid reader of her blog Toronto Beauty Reviews). I would read about Elaine’s positive experiences from attending numerous BlushPretty: The Beauty Board events, reading BP’s blog, Instagram and Twitter feeds. When I won the CLEAR: Scalp and Therapy Shampoo and Conditioner on the blog, I decided to attend the 2013 BlushPretty: The Beauty Board event and officially met Steph. She contacted me on Facebook on New Year’s Eve 2013 and asked me to be a blog contributor and I said yes!
The best part of my job: Besides trying out new products and writing about them, I’ve been able to meet quite a few of the ladies on BlushPretty Team. All of them have been very nice and welcoming. I’ve also been able to attend events at the studio and outside the to learn about new products.
My secret beauty weapon: Broadway Nails: imPRESS manicure Press-On Nails. When I don’t have the time to paint my nails these are my go-to’s. They are very easy to apply, durable and will last for up to 7 days.
My must share beauty tip: Ask questions and opinions on beauty and skincare products that you are new to using or want to try out. Go to the people who know about the products and has the patience to answer all of your questions.
