recos from regina : deborah lippmann spring 2015

December 16, 2014By DJMC

I became an instant fan of Deborah Lippmann’s nail polishes when I purchased my first, Raise Your Glass – a colour that was designed to commemorate Holt Renfrew’s 150th Anniversary two years ago.

I had the chance to try out the shade Like Dreamers Do, part of the Spring 2015 collection launching soon.

This sheer grey-taupe-bisque colour first appeared at Donna Karan’s 2015 NYFW show. It’s a great neutral colour for all skin tones, particularly for those who don’t want to add a strong colour to their nails.

What I enjoy about Deborah Lippmann nail polishes is how quickly the product dries in between coats and the shine it has once it dries.

Like Dreamers Do by Deborah Lippmann will be out in stores in February 2015 and can be found at Holt Renfrew and Sephora for $22.00-$24.00.

**Disclosure: This product was sent to BlushPretty as a press sample for editorial consideration.**

a monday minute : vasanti cosmetics love brights gel matte lipstick

December 15, 2014By stephanie

Just last week we posted about Vasanti Cosmetic’s new love brights gel matte lipstick. Needless to say, each of our contributors loved the new formula.
I was lucky enough to meet with the beautiful masterminds behind the brand, and I took a quick video about the design behind this new innovative bullet of colour.
I thought you might like to take a minute and here it straight from the brand’s mouth!

holiday shop #2 : the stocking stuffer …

December 12, 2014By stephanie 1 Comment

When it comes to gifting, I find I have the easiest time with stocking stuffers. For me, stocking stuffers are meant to be those fun, inexpensive, but totally useful items that people want to buy for themselves but never do in favour of items that seem more necessary – I can’t tell you how many times I have left a Shoppers Drug Mart in tears over having to buy cough medicine and diapers over a bold coloured nail polish or a pretty Burts Bees lip colour. Need versus want. Stocking stuffers are meant to be “needed wants”.

Speaking of Shoppers Drug Mart – that’s the answer to your stocking stuffer questions – your local drugstore beauty aisles. SDM, Rexall, even The Superstore, are filled with budget friendly, colourful, and – best of all – quality items that any beauty babe would love to find in her fishnet holiday stocking.

Don’t believe me? Here are a few ideas :

Maybelline The Nudes Palette ( and perhaps, The Smoke Palettes, if you can find it! ) : any chick who values winged liner and mascara would love to have her hands on either of these palettes filled with the right combination of colours. Just under $15 CAD, it’s affordable but screams luxury!

Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick : lipstick makes every girl smile, and with 16 shades to choose from you can mix and match and give that special someone a lipstick wardrobe. Might I suggest Notting Hill Nude, Picadilly Pink, and Heather Shimmer.

Vasanti Kajal Extreme Intense Eye Pencils :  this stocking stuffer is simple (just $18 a pop!) but screams luxe and lovely. These liners come complete with a sharpener and smudging tool on the opposite end which makes this the ultimate tool for dressed up eyes in a flash. Choose the norm core basic black … or do something fun like Graphite Green!

CoverGirl Bombshell Volume LashBlast Mascara : LashBlast is still one of my very favourite mascara lines, and the new two-step system Bombshell Volume Mascara is the perfect present for the lady who loves long and lush lashes. Want to give the recipient a bonus? Why not give a selection of mascaras from the LashBlast line? Team up Bombshell with LashBlast Length and LashBlast Luxe!

Almay Smart Shade Bronzer and Powder Blush : Not that skilled at picking the right colour for that perfect pretty pal? Let’s take the guess work out of the equation for you. During the holiday season, not a single girl can resist fighting off the cold weather by adding in a pinch of colour to the cheeks.   By swirling the three tones in each of the these products, they can sweep on some colour that will adjust to match their complexion. Done and done!

See what you can find in the drugstore beauty aisles? Not to mention, at under $20 a piece,  it’s a beauty goldmine on holiday budget.

Happy Shopping! :)

bp test drive : vasanti love brights gel matte lipstick

December 11, 2014By DJMC 2 Comments

Recently, the bp blog team got their hands on Vasanti’s new line of lipsticks, the Love Brights Gel Mattes. Offering a variety of bold, matte lip shades that wear comfortably and for a long time, these are an amazing product from an even cooler company – founded by three Canadian women, Vasanti Cosmetics is quickly reaching cult status offering products that add radiance and glow to any woman.

We each snapped a selfie with our gel mattes on and shared a few thoughts on the lipsticks – needless to say, we were a happy bunch of beauty bloggers.

Laura A – Destined for Love

“I’m a huge fan of Vasanti lipsticks. The colours are always gorgeous, but my favorite thing is the guava scent! I loved that the colour had great staying power and that it also doubles as a subtle stain by patting just a bit on the lips. This baby glides on like butter! A winner in my books.”

Regina – Endless Love

“‘Hot! Georgeous! Beautiful!’ were the first three words that came to mind as soon as I applied this lipstick. When I think of Endless Love, it also reminds me of one of my favourite love songs from the 1980s by Diana Ross and Lionel Ritchie.

I was impressed how the deep red colour brightens up a smile right away and works great for every skintone. For a matte lipstick, I was surprised and happy that it kept my lips moisturized and never dried out throughout the day. I also enjoyed how smoothly it was to apply, and the colour remained strong after drinking a hot Chai tea, snacks and a pizza lunch.”

Mer – Unconditional Love

“Many matte lipsticks leave your lips feeling super dry and looking not so pretty. Not the case with this gorgeous lip colour. The matte effect is lovely and soft. The colour is vibrant and long lasting (and detracts from the new mum sleep deprived look that I am owning at the moment). The unique shape makes it easy to apply on the go. Love!”

Morgan – Puppy Love

“Right off the bat I loved how unique the bullet was for this product – it makes it really easy to apply. The colour glides on effortlessly and doesn’t dry out your lips like a lot of matte products do (and if there’s a lipstick variety I know well, it’s mattes). The pink was the perfect soft, baby pink and I’m officially obsessed. Looking at the other shades in the line, I know this won’t be my last Vasanti lipstick.”

made up with mer : bite beauty BB

December 10, 2014By DJMC 1 Comment

A BB for lips you ask? Yes! And it’s lovely (starting a sentence with the word and = not so lovely…but I digress). It’s essentially a tinted lip balm, and bite beauty’s BB for lips gets a thumbs up from me.

Packaging? Twist tube. Application is easy.

Pigmentation? There are 4 colours and 1 colourless. Light for every day (read: can be applied sans mirror for touch ups). Look to coordinate with your natural lip colour for a sheer yet polished pout.

Formula? Moisturizing and does not contain parabens, sulfates or phthalates. Not long wearing but you wouldn’t expect long wear colour in a BB/tinted lip moisturizer.

Price? $28.

Where to buy? Sephora.

Worth it? I say yes. This is a fantastic product for ladies (or gents) on the go and will be especially helpful getting in to the dry winter weather.

Bonus? Bite Beauty is a Canadian company!

What’s not to love? To avoid a chapped pout this winter, also try Bite Beauty’s agave lip mask.
