31 days to a prettier 2017 : and on the seventh day …

January 22, 2017By stephanie

It’s Sunday again!

Day 22 : January 22

It’s time to rest again.

But today, do it in style. Wear a luxurious face mask for 30 minutes. Meditate. Brush your hair 50 strokes to make it nice and shiny.

However you rest … make it feel like a million bucks!

Goodnight!

31 days to a prettier 2017 : head to toe beauty …

January 20, 2017By stephanie

Over the past 20 days, we’ve focused on beauty from all angles top to bottom – so why stop? Beauty is not just about makeup, it’s about how you feel!

Day 20 : January 20

Start a dry brush routine!

I’m a huge fan of dry brushing the entire body. It’s a quick and easy way to exfoliate the entire body from head to toe, while also promoting detoxification and circulation. It’s even been known to help reduce the appearance of cellulite (yes, please!)

To dry brush, you just need to invest in a firmly bristled dry brush with a long enough handle to reach all over. Brushes are available almost anywhere they sell body care items, so it shouldn’t be too hard for you to find.

Using your dry brush, you want to use short brisk strings in an upwards motion, starting at the legs and working your way up to the stomach, arms, and your back (which is where a long handled brush comes in handy). Experts suggest 10-12 strings per body part before moving on to the next area. The best time to dry brush is early in the day, right before you jump in the shower.

YouTube has plenty of instructional videos to see how its done. And you can Google and shop around for different brushes.

Brush away!

TIP : Be firm with your grip and pressure … the exfoliating action plus the deep pressure will get your day started off right.

HOMEOWRK : Make it a habit. Even if you just have two minutes before you jump in the shower, dry brush. Eventually, it will become an automatic practice (like brushing your teeth) and you’ll do it on autopilot each morning!

31 days to a prettier 2017 : lash extensions, microblading, balyage …

January 19, 2017By stephanie

There is nothing wrong with asking questions. And there definitely isn’t anything wrong with being an informed consumer. Today I want you to *think* about stepping out of your beauty safe zone … and simply inquire about a beauty procedure that may have crossed your mind once … or twice.

Day 19 : January 19

Get more information about a new beauty trend or procedure you want to try (or have thought about).

Whether it’s lash extensions, fusion hair extensions, permanent makeup or Botox … today you’re going to call up a studio, salon or clinic that offers that service and ask questions and request pricing information. You may even book a free consultation.

Often times, we think it would be cool to do something but freak ourselves out because we’re way to comfortable in our own lanes and fill our minds with excuses and our own uninformed opinions. New beauty procedures like microblading for the brows or microneedling for fine lines/anti-aging are becoming more and more popular by the minute, yet we still hold ourselves back because we think we know what it might be like, but if we are really honest – we don’t.

By calling up a professional in the field, you’re going to give to yourself the real deal about {insert your desired procedure here}. You’re going to hear them out, get the full deets on all the benefits, and REALLY listen to what the “scary NOT scary” things might be about the procedure itself and the aftercare. You’re going to become informed.

Once you’re done your call and/or consultation … you can finally make a real decision about whether or not you want to move forward with said procedure.

Get your pen and paper handy!

TIP : Call more than one place. Not only is it good for price comparison, but you can also compare what the esthetician, artist or medical professional at both companies say.

HOMEWORK : After you have spoken with your chosen salons or spas, make your own pros and cons list about what you learned.

31 days to a prettier 2017 : brighten up the eyes …

January 18, 2017By stephanie

Today, I’m going to tell you to treat yo’self …

Day 18 : January 18

Buy yourself a new eyeshadow.

We spoke about eyeliners before for defining the eyes, but today we’re going to talk about brightening up and highlighting the eyes. You’re going to do this with a simple swipe of eyeshadow. You probably already have plenty of shadows ranging the colours of a rainbow, but the shadow I want you to pick up will be a neutral shimmer.

Look for something across the lines of soft champagne, rose gold, soft gold, or bronze. Shades that fall within this category can be swept across the lids and instantly lift and brighten the eye area within nothing more than perhaps mascara.

It’s a great way to get ready quick with minimal makeup! And don’t worry, the right neutral shimmer can always be incorporated into your full colour looks from winged liner to smokey eyes!

Now, off you go!

TIP : For easy on the go, try cream eyeshadow sticks. I particularly love Laura Mercier and Bobbi Brown!

HOMEWORK : Buy yourself just one, but it doesn’t hurt to take note of other shades that don’t make the cut. You can always pick them up later!

31 days to a prettier 2017 : commit to an all over balm …

January 17, 2017By stephanie

We’ve all been in that situation when a dry patch comes through our makeup midday, or our cuticles look rough, or  our baby hairs get a little feisty. You cannot carry your vanity table with you everywhere you go, so here’s our trick for MacGyvering your pop-up beauty dilemmas.

Day 17 : January 17

Commit to an All Over Balm (or skin salve).

An all over balm or skin salve is like the duct tape of makeup … while most are advertised as a quick way to hydrate the skin in a convenient carry with you everywhere tube they do so much more than that! They come in all sort of consistencies and are cased in everything from tubes to tin pots (as mentioned, portable!). The ones I prefer comes in a firmer (but smooth), waxy texture and in tin or glass pot form, just because you don’t waste any product – you can lightly pick up some on the finger tips without overdoing it, or gather a bit more by scooping it out when needed. Tube salves are just as great, but I’ve been known to squeeze out too much more often than not!

What can you do with your balm?  Plenty!

  • Apply a light layer over dry patches of skin midday, as needed
  • Soothe minor cuts and wounds
  • Heal chapped lips in a pinch
  • Sweep up high on the cheeks for a quick highlight
  • Refresh your makeup, especially under the eyes
  • Tame brow hairs
  • Tame baby hairs and flyaways
  • Soften cuticles
  • Press and blend over your eyeshadow for a glossy eye look
  • Dab blush to the lips and smooth salve over for a DIY clip colour
  • Remove makeup mistakes

See – it’s truly the duct tape of makeup.

All over balms or skin salves can be found with in both conventional and organic brands, and a bunch of sizes. Brands I suggest : NYX, Glossier, Antipodes and RMS.

Happy Shopping!

TIP : I say commit now (which I do mean), but you can also test out a few before making a hard purchase!

HOMEWORK : Once you’ve chosen a salve, try turning to it first whenever you come across a skin issue or beauty dilemma – start testing out what works for you and what doesnt, how much you need to solve the dilemma or how much you don’t!
