into it : kiss strip lash adhesive (with aloe!) …

I have perhaps tried every single lash glue there is. From the clear to the white to the black,  from the single adhesive to strip adhesive, from the tube to the brush on applicators. I have laughed, I have cried, and I have loved my way through many a lash glue.

kiss

And then I found this new one and  … I just want to get married to it!

My current obsession is Kiss’ Strip Lash Adhesive (with Aloe) in Black. It’s inky black (to match my gel liner!), it’s wet but not goopy, and it glides over a lash track like a dream. I’m not even kidding you, I have one tube in both my kits (as in my compact makeup kit, and my “this job is going to be a big one!” kit), plus a tube I keep inside my brush belt just in case. And I’m pretty sure, somewhere in my supplies drawers, I have a tube or two packaged up waiting to be used!

So why am I loving this product so much?

Well for starters, despite its traditional tube packaging, I have never pushed out too much product or made a big clumpy mess of it. It seems to release smoothly out of the tube with a tiny squeeze, meaning less wasted glue. In addition, while tacky in consistency it is never seems to get goopy or clumpy. Yes, I do get a bit of dried mess on the applicator now and then between uses, but once you remove that, the glue inside the tube is still as good as the day I first opened it.

I also appreciate how it transfers from your applicator (or however you choose to apply the glue) and glides across the lash track. For me, it always creates a thin but consistent line right across the lash.

Lastly, while the same formulation comes in clear – je l’aime en noir! Black, black and more black. I mean, I love it for liner, smudgy shadow and mascara … because well, maybe I’m just basic like that … but now I can add my lash glue to the mix. Parfait! And an added bonus, for my brides or clients who aren’t as big a fan of black liner as I am but whom appreciate the definition a small swipe of black liner can give, Kiss’ black glue actually creates a thin line across the lash line once applied with the false lash, and therefore, (with a little bit of help from a slanted eyeliner brush and maybe a small speck of gel liner) you have practically won that battle!

I love pairing Kiss’ lash glue with ALL my false lashes from the Kiss line and other brands. It’s currently my secret weapon!

countdown to christmas : nails nails and nails …

Even if a lady doesn’t get her nails and cuticles tended to on the weekly (or monthly), a fresh manicure and coat of nail polish always manages to make her smile. Whether she loves bright pops of colour, a palette of neutrals, or is always up-to-date on the latest negative space nail art, there is a nail polish out there for her.

nailpolish

Nail polish makes for a great stocking stuffer for several reasons : bottles can be inexpensive, they come in every colour under the moon ALL-YEAR-ROUND, and they are the perfect stocking stuffer size.

If you happen to know someone who leans towards bright pops of colour from neon oranges and pinks to deep jewelled blues and purples, then pick up a couple of bottles of China Glaze. With so may bright colours to choose from, plus some fun glittery formulations, you won’t run out of options from this brand. I find two coats does a nail good and a properly done application can last a few days before a touch-up is needed.  May I suggest that you grab Mix and Mingle and Coal Hands, Warm Heart from the holiday collection and present them as a set – the manicure that would result would be epic for the new year!

If your bestie, girlfriend, our favourite niece favour a more neutral and nude palette, how about seeking something classic from the Essie line. Essie has one of the best pinks : Mademoiselle ; but I favour Ballet Slippers just a hint more. I also enjoy Merino Cool, Master Plan, and Chinchilla. This is definitely the brand I go to when I was a polished manicure with a sophisticated look. Even the sheerest of colours go on without a streaky appearance.

Know for a fact that the person you’re trying to gift probably won’t have time to paint their nails, but would love a manicure for a day or two?  Then there is an option for you : Kiss Nails! “Press-on” nails are BACK and with a vengeance … and with a much better style selection. Kiss Nails come in a variety of styles to choose from : from the classic french manicure to pro nail art designs to even holiday themed ones. A box or two inside a stocking will definitely garner some holiday cheer!

Happy Shopping!

A few weeks ago I was invited to attend the Kiss Nails 2015 product preview and was very excited, to say the least.

Gems and jewels have never been easier to apply with this jelly textured product which is the first of its kind and professional grade quality! The glue was designed specifically for nail art and long lasting hold, so now we can all be pro manicurists at home.

recos from regina : kiss nail dress

For those looking for a quick and easy way to do a manicure, Kiss Products has come out with their new and improved 2 Looks Nail Dress. As a fan of Kiss Nail Products, I was excited for the opportunity to try it out in Double Lutz.

The box contains a mini dual-sided nail file and 40 different sizes of peel off nail strips (to fit all sizes of finger nail beds). 20 nail strips are for the Full Manicure, and the other 20 nail strips are for the French Manicure – hence the 2 looks name of the product.

Some tips to keep in mind when you’re applying the products:

  • Keep strips in plastic sleeve until ready to use
  • Select strip that fits nails
  • Apply near, not on cuticle and smooth away from centre
  • Fold down over edge and gently file excess from side-to-side with nail file underneath edge of nail

If you’re going for the french tip manicure look, Kiss also suggest using a top coat to seal the tip of the nail dress.

What I liked about Nail Dress was how natural my nails looked with the strips on – I was given many compliments at work on how nice my nails looked. The step-by-step instructions on the back of the box with pictures on how to apply the product are also really helpful, and getting 2 looks in 1 product was also a plus. Application is easy, and the removal is even easier and quick just by gently peeling of the strip from the side.

You can find this product and other styles at Wal-Mart, Target and London Drugs starting at $8.97.

Disclosure: This product was sent to BlushPretty as a press sample for editorial consideration.

scene+heard : ROAR

On Sunday, March 9, the studio at 777 Richmond Street West became a destination for deserving women to be styled, beautified and treated like royalty (although, we like to think this is always the case). The occasion? ROAR Toronto, hosted by Flirt Custom Lash.

The event could not have happened with so many generous people and brands. Services and products were provided by our very own BlushPretty team (hair and makeup), Tamika Auwai (styling), NLB Media (graphic design), Barb Dubrawski (photography), Cristina’s Tortina Shop (treats) and clothes and accessories came from donors and some incredible brands including  LOFT, Kiss Nails, Broadway Nails and The Body Shop.

ROAR is for women from Woodgreen Homeward Bound, a program described by the organization as “a holistic, 4-year job-readiness program featuring: affordable housing; free, quality child care; training and post-secondary education in a marketable skill; personal development support; mental health and recreational services for children; and a guaranteed, family-sustaining career opportunity at the end of the program.”

The afternoon was spent “glamming” them up, giving them one-on-one time with our expert stylist Tamika, setting them up with clothes and accessories and providing professional photographs to put their best foot forward as they graduate from the program.

Each of the women were truly inspirational, and the BlushPretty team was so proud to be a part of the big day! As always, our team, specifically Laura Tran, Samantha Wilson, Karla Bravo, Tiffany Watson and (the newest addition to the team) Jennifer Ballance, were on point with makeup and hair! We thank them greatly for being so generous with their time!

Special shoutouts go out to Sommer Dunsmuir of Flirt Custom Lash for initiating and hosting the event, our very own Elaine Atkins for doing some serious project coordination, and of course, everyone who donated in some way, shape or form to make it a success.

We’re looking forward to seeing the event grow even bigger & better for years to come and wish the participating women nothing but success!
