stuff from lil steph : blush crush

March 11, 2014By DJMC

Feeling the winter blues because cold weather won’t go away? Blush to the rescue! Make Up For Ever has recently launched their new HD Cream Blushes ($31) in sixteen shades in the perfect pop of colour to warm up your complexion. Lately, I’ve been reaching for two colours – 225 (peachy pink) and 410 (coral).

With this product, a little goes the longest way. A single tap in the pan is enough for my entire face. Although the product is superbly pigmented, you don’t have to worry about getting a bad case of clown face. The blendability of this blush is very much to my liking – you can buff a bright colour into looking natural. To add to the awesomeness of this blush, it’s extraordinarily long lasting – the cream to powder matte finish lasts a total of 8+ hours on my skin.

And… the pièce de résistance. The blush comes in a mini compact with a handy mirror, but if you don’t fancy carrying around a single compact, the blushes are easily depottable and the pans are magnetic. Thus, you can easily place the blush pan into a custom palette.

The HD Cream Blushes are everything I could ever ask for in a cheek product. Smooth, blendable, silky, long-lasting and the perfect flush of colour… need I say more?

musings from morgan : valentine’s insipiration

February 12, 2014By DJMC

Before meeting my beau, I was a single lady for many years – and I really thought it was going to stay that way forever. I had pretty negative feelings about Valentine’s Day and was definitely the kind of girl who would be attending the Chrome Hearts portion of our Valentine’s event this week!

When I finally had a reason to celebrate the big day of hearts, kisses, romance and above all love, I quickly realized it’s really the kind of holiday that is up to you to make the most of. If you want my true feelings on the day, it’s this – whether you’re single or attached, Valentine’s Day should be about loving yourself and going the extra mile to make YOU feel sexy & fabulous! If someone gets to benefit from the extra confidence boost, lucky them ;)

With that attitude in mind, I wanted to share a look I recently wore out for girls night that really captured how I think every woman should feel on a day like Valentine’s – red lipstick included, of course (towards the bottom)!

This look definitely started with the hair. I opted for a lot more volume than usual and pulled back what little hair I have into something different, and already I was feeling pretty great.

When it got to the makeup, it was all about a soft base and my interpretation of a smoky eye – nothing too crazy, but considering I’m not an eye shadow girl to begin with it was definitely a departure from what I typically wear. False lashes were a must – they’re my go-to item when I’m looking to pump up the “glam.”

Of course, when it came time to walk out the door I reached for my Make Up For Ever Aqua Rouge (and a few accessories) to complete the evening-look.

Simply by changing up my usual routine and stepping outside of my comfort zone, I dramatically boosted my confidence, so I hope this look inspires you to do the same on Friday!

My challenge to you this Valentine’s Day is this: choose your outfit, beauty look and even your underthings solely for the purpose of boosting your own self confidence. Take the day to highlight what you love about yourself, and whether you’re going on a date, going out with the girls or hanging out solo, I honestly believe you’ll enjoy Valentine’s that much more.

Happy V-Day from the BlushPretty team!

Our latest spotlight features what may be a familiar face for some of you, Arianne de Guzman, a.k.a. the Glitter Geek. Find her on Twitter and Facebook to read up on her adventures in beauty!

Name: Arianne de Guzman

Years with BP: Two

I got into hair and/or makeup artistry because… I’ve been makeup obsessed for years! I read a lot of beauty blogs and watch YouTube videos while procrastinating, and some makeup artist friends of mine told me that I have a little bit o’ talent so I decided to go for it.

My favourite part about being makeup artist is… Bringing out confidence in each client, especially the shy ones! Gosh, that’s so corny, but 100% the truth.

My dream celebrity client: Lily Collins. Those brows! That face!

My secret weapon: MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Brows: for gorgeous brows that won’t fade or melt away.

My must-share beauty tip: My #1 beauty tip isn’t about makeup; it’s on skincare. Use face oils (just not mineral oil!). There’s a face oil for every skin type, and they are so good for the skin. The right oil even on oily skin will normalize it and make it glow pretty!

We’re starting a new feature on the bp blog to highlight some of our amazing team members called “Spotlight On.” First up is one of our makeup artists, Marissa! Check out her profile and some of her fabulous work below. Find her on Facebook here.

Marissa Damian

Years with BP: 1 year in April

I got into hair and/or makeup artistry because… As a kid I was always in my Mom’s makeup stash putting on her lipsticks and blush along with her high heels. I’ve always loved to apply to myself, so why not to others?

My favourite part about being a hair/makeup artist… That feeling when my client looks in the mirror and says “Oh my god, I love it!” just lets me know I’ve done what was needed and made them feel amazing.

My dream celebrity client: Scarlett Johansson! She has beautiful eyes and lips.

My secret Weapon: Make Up For Ever Aqua Brow Corrector! It’s amazing stuff! It’s one of my holy grails.

My must-share beauty tip: Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! And don’t forget to cleanse and exfoliate. Take care of your skin :)

musings from morgan : lipstick lovin’

January 9, 2014By DJMC

If I had to pick my favourite makeup product to experiment with and wear, it’s lipstick. While mascara, brow filler and liquid liner are absolute cannot-leave-the-house-without-wearing products for me, it’s always a better day when I can rock a bold, sexy lip colour to top off a look. I don’t care what the occasion is – I firmly believe no matter where you go, there’s a lipstick that’s appropriate to wear. More importantly, I swear by the belief that every woman can wear a bold red lip – you just need to take the time to find the right shade for you (so stop saying you can’t!).

If you’re looking for some inspiration for a new shade to try out, allow me to share what’s in my current rotation these days.

Make Up For Ever Aqua Rouge – #11 Dark Raspberry ($29 CDN at

When I saw Arianne at Glitter Geek blog about this product last fall, it was love at first sight. I promptly paid a visit to Sephora and scooped this up in #11 Dark Raspberry, and it’s been my go-to vamp lip colour all winter. The staying power is incomparable – it is not going aaanywhere, even if you want it to. It’s highly pigmented and while it wears like a cream stain, the gloss on the other end ensures your lips don’t dry out and adds the right amount of shine. Tip: avoid putting too much on at once as I don’t find builds well while still wet, and avoid wearing if your lips are super dry – I’ve found as of late with my winter dried out lips it goes on a little blotchy if I’m not on top of exfoliating and moisturizing regularly.

MAC Lipstick – RiRi Woo ($18 CDN – Limited Edition)

Okay, so I feel a little bad putting in a lipstick that’s no longer available for purchase, BUT – this colour is very similar to Ruby Woo (case in point) and the purpose of sharing this shade is to simply encourage you to find a bold, bright red to throw into your mix. I love the matte finish on this product, and as with all MAC lipsticks, it’s got a fabulous scent. As it is a matte product it’s a little dry going on, but I always prime with MAC Prep + Prime Lip and that seems to give me the base I need for this to last long and go on smooth.

MAC Lipstick – Heroine ($18 CAD at

You may have heard by now Heroine made its permanent return just a few weeks ago, and to say it’s become my latest obsession would be an understatement. While I’ll likely always be a red lip girl at heart, I’m having a serious moment with purple these days. This is such a beautiful violet colour that screams“confidence”, and it’s the perfect way to brighten up the dull weather we’ve been experiencing as of late. If you’re hesitant to take the purple plunge, do me a favour and at least visit a MAC counter to give it a try. You may be pleasantly surprised at the results.
