scene+heard : Strivectin HAIR

Earlier this month we sent BlushPretty Lead Hair Artist, Samantha Wilson, over to the Colette Grand Cafe at The Thompson Hotel to check up on the latest from Strivectin. Samantha has nothing but rave reviews for this new line, but before we share with you her thoughts, a little bit of background for you …

Strivectin3

In case you haven’t heard, Strivectin has expanded their innovation and research in anti-aging from skincare to … HAIR CARE! As a leading brand in everything against aging – fine lines, wrinkles, firmness, dehydration, dullness , you name it! – it only makes sense that Strivectin beefs up their brand by tackling women’s other beauty obsession : hair and great hair days 24/7.

This new franchise, StriVectin Hair introduces a breakthrough in research to tackle the signs of aging in hair : thinning, wiriness, dryness, gray, dullness, breakage, split ends, frizz, lackluster texture, and brittleness. According to the brand, “each formula contains the brand’s NIA-114 technology which activates the scalp and rejuvenates hair from root to tip”.

The product range has three separate formulas which includes: Ultimate Restore, Max Volume, and Color Care.

Strivectin1Here’s what Samantha had to say after three weeks testing out the new line :

The first thing that caught my eye, besides the pretty packaging, was the ingredients in these products. I love that the products are free of sulphates, parabens, synthetic dyes, phthalates and phosphates.

The line not only targets what you feel is wrong with your hair but also, what you want from your hair. It promotes trying to restore your hair to its natural, most healthy, ageless state.

I really liked that this line focuses on the scalp and the hair from root to tip. After the first use of StriVectin, I could feel and see a difference in the state of my hair. My hair felt and looked fuller. It felt soft, nourished and hydrated; and as an added bonus my hair had a beautiful healthy shine that didn’t weigh my hair down. The fragrance is soft and not overpowering – very pleasant!

Overall, it’s an affordable must have line for hair health. I would recommend this line to clients and friends.

There you have it – straight from BlushPretty’s Master of Hair and a BP Bride favourite artist.  If you are curious about the line and want to hear more or test it out yourself, you can visit your local Shoppers Drug Mart to pick up the line.

Have a great Monday beauties!

because mom’s like stuff!

We are four sleeps away from Mother’s Day. Many of you have most likely planned out your special day with the one you call mother. Others have perhaps already mailed out your greeting card. Some of you have scheduled in your overseas call to mom, making sure the timezones match up. And the rest of us … well … we’re probably still trying to figure out what might make the best gift; or maybe … we haven’t even made a list yet.

Sometimes its really easy, right? Departments stores are offering ready to buy gift sets; salons and spas are offering gift certificates on packages; and online sites have speedy delivery direct to her home. Click, click, click,  and … send.

And then other times, it’s hard. Your mother might appreciate the finer things in life, but does she ever make time for it? Maybe she’s perfectly fine with going to her regular lady for a haircut and colour for $18 plus tax, she doesn’t want to try your new fancy salon where the taxes are $18 alone. Or perhaps, she doesn’t like anyone touching her face and getting nekkid in public! She’s okay with her old soap and water routine and doesn’t want to be fussed over. And that beautiful makeup set? It’s gorgeous, but she can get by with that lipstick she received in that gift with purchase when she replenished recently her favourite yellow moisturizer. Moms are hard to shop for. Period. Exclamation Mark. Times 100.

So today, instead of focusing on beauty products and services for mom that she appreciates but finds extravagant … I wanted to focus on beauty tools. Tools, strictly for vanity purposes, that I think mother’s will love unexpectedly.  She will love them because they feel luxurious but also, because she can do it herself. Because as a mom myself, there are two things I know I love : money well spent on quality and being in control.

Philips Sonicare Diamond Clean

sonicare-e1430919825598

Dental hygiene – it’s the stuff moms are constantly reminding their kids to do – but not themselves. The Philips Sonicare Diamond Clean comes complete with charging travel case and charger glass to make cleaner, whiter teeth for a busy mom totally possible. As someone who gets shamed by the dentist bi-annually for receeding gums and bad flossing habits, this electric toothbrush is a god-send. It has 5 brushing modes, 2 of which are “gum care” and “sensitive”. Over the past few years I’ve been brushing lightly to avoid harming my gumline, but now with my new Soniccare, I can can a deep clean without damage or feeling like I’ve bruised my teeth. Perfecto! The other three settings are  ”clean”, “white”, and “polish” – all useful for a perfect smile.  Lastly, as a bonus for Mother’s Day – you can find the Sonicare in a beautiful shade of blush pink (black and white are standard). It might seem odd to give your mother a toothbrush for Mother’s Day … but how many times have you given a gift to your mom and she has replied “when can I use this?”. Toothbrushes are staples. Moms need them. This is the Tiffany’s bracelet of toothbrushes.

Trust me!

Foreo Luna Mini

foreo

I have owned my t-sonic Luna Mini forever a year almost now and I love it. This handheld device – so compact it’s wonderful for travel as well – allows me to give my skin a deep cleanse with every use removing dirt, oil and makeup with ease. If your mother happens to steer clear of spas and facials, or happens to keep a simple regimen, this one little tool would be a welcome addition that is neither intimidating or a hassle to use. The Luna Mini holds its charge for about three months of consistent use – which is only about 1 or 2 minutes a day. It works with any cleanser and there are two speeds to drive away blemishes and congestion. After a week’s use, you mother will see a brighter, softer complexion and she never had to leave the house or change her products. Another easy does it gift for mama.

Konjac Body Sponges

konjac

My friend, Marni, from Pelle Beauty introduced me to The Konjac Sponge Company and konjac sponges. With several options for the face or body, konjac sponges are earth friendly, sustainable sponges that provide a cleanse and balance the skin at the same time. Clay-based, the sponges gently exfoliate the skin and different clays can promote different results  from deep cleansing the skin to rejuvenating the complexion to improving circulation. With proper care, one sponge can last a few months. Gift her two or three, and she won’t need to replenish until the holiday season when you can place a few more in her stocking! I suggest a mix of one for the face and one for the body!

See – Mother’s Day doesn’t have to always be about ribbons and teacups. It can be about functional too! :)

Happy shopping – you’ve got four days!

scene+heard : saint cosmetics

I recently checked out the launch party for Saint Cosmetics at Andrew Richards Design in downtown Toronto. In case you haven’t heard of them, Saint Cosmetics is a brand new natural cosmetics line that has been in the making over the last two years and developed by the Marydel Group. The line consists of 144 products for the lips, eyes and face.

What makes the line unique is its ingredients are totally natural – products are produced from the best natural component of plants that don’t result in skin irritation unlike other chemical based cosmetics.

Upon entering Andrew Richards Design Studio, guests were greeted with a walk on the Red Carpet with pictures being taken. (pictures from the event can be found on Facebook). Cocktails and food were created by Toronto’s own Chef Toben Kochman.  There were also one-on-one makeup applications done by professional makeup artists.

What impressed me while I was there was the belief in giving back to the community.  2% of all of Saint Cosmetics sales are donated to Interval House, Canada’s first safe haven for abused women and children. I also like that this cosmetics line is Made In Canada – a great bonus. If you’re looking for a new brand offering natural, organic products make sure you check them out!

The Saint Cosmetics line can be purchased on their website: www.saintcosmetics.ca.

loved by laura : air optix colors

On Thursday November 6 I had the privilege of attending Alcon’s Air Optix Colors event with their guest makeup artist Grace Lee, where they were launching their new line of coloured lenses.

When I arrived at the event I was kindly greeted by the hostess and quickly directed to an optometrist for my contact lens fitting, where I was able to test out coloured lenses of my liking.  There were 9 colours of lenses to try on including blue, brilliant blue, gray, sterling gray, gemstone green, green, pure hazel, honey and brown.

I opted for the gray and gemstone green. The whole night I sported a David Bowie/Mila Kunis style of two different coloured eyes. They really changed my regular look and created a sense of mystery and intrigue. I felt original and very exotic every time I looked into the mirror or saw my reflection.

For the most part they were very comfortable and safe. The contact lenses have been engineered and created with a unique 3 in 1 color technology that enhances your eye color for a very natural and beautiful look. I was amazed at how vibrant the contact lenses made your eyes look as well as the vivid glow it gives your face. They were very natural looking to the point that I did not realize everyone had the contacts on too.

As a bonus treat, I had my makeup done by a makeup artist under the direction of Grace Lee, the lead makeup artist for Maybelline New York Canada. Grace was an absolute sweetheart and she rocked her leather pants like no other that evening!

A palette that the makeup artist used on me was the Maybelline “The Nudes” palette. It has all the nudes that you would need for any natural look. I can see this palette as a staple for any individual, especially for any traveller. It contains a black shadow for lining your eyes, multiple shades of brown to fill in your eye brows and an array of light to dark as well as shimmering beige and brown shades to fulfill your eye shadow look. It comes in a sleek compact case and is ready to slip into any purse or bag.

It was a great evening – I truly felt glamourous sporting a different eye colour!  This will be a line of contact lenses I will definitely consider when I am in the market for new ones.

The Air Optix colors contact lenses can be ordered through an optometrist. They usually range from $79.95 and up for 6 lenses.
