giveaway : strike a pose in stockholm with revlon …

It’s friday folks! :) And while I haven’t been the best little blogger when it comes to posting regularly, I thought you would forgive me if you knew that today, I decided to get your weekend started off with some fun : a giveaway.

A giveaway?! I rarely have those on the blog, don’t I? Well, the kind people behind Revlon gave me the inspiration by treating me to my very on Stockholm-inspired look for Fall 2014 using their line of Colorstay products. Check out my “Stockholm Selfie” below:

How did I get the look? Easy peasy …

*  Start by sweeping Revlon’s ColorStay ShadowLink ($3.49 each) in Bone across the entire lid from lash line to brow bone;

*  Using Revlon’s ColorStay Skinny Liquid Liner ($10.49), apply the liner across the lash line – nice and crisp – and extend it just past the eye’s outer corner, wings for takeoff are acceptable!

*  Using eyeshadow colour Onyx, dust the colour from the inner corner and blend outward.

*  Top your lashes with Revlon’s Bold Lacquer Mascara ($10.49) … layer as needed.

*  Finish the look with the piece de résistance : Revlon ColorStay Moisture Stain ($13.59) in Stockholm Chic.

Ready to go to Stockholm? Well, you could pick up any of these ultra-cool shades listed above at your local Shoppers Drug Mart, Wal-Mart or Rexall … or … you could enter Revlon’s giveaway to win your very own set! The rules are simple … head over to my Instagram page, follow me, and simply double-tap my Stockholm selfie post to be entered. Bonus points from me if you leave a comment. :)

The contest ends when the clock strikes 11:59 pm TONIGHT!*

musings from morgan : revlon colorstay under eye concealer

Dark circles are an issue I’m constantly looking to tackle in my daily beauty routine – I’ve had them as long as I can remember and they are a serious pain to cover up for the entirety of a day. When the chance to test drive Revlon’s Colorstay Under Eye Concealer came along I was really excited – the Colorstay family of products has not failed me yet (I love the foundation and nail polishes) and it’s always a thrill finding a good quality drugstore product.

This particular concealer is designed to provide all-day coverage with a natural finish to tackle discolourations and tired eyes. It’s oil-free and has an SPF of 15 which is better than many concealers can say, and has Revlon’s SoftFlex Technology that gives it a lightweight, comfortable feel.

It comes in a twist-up tube with a soft-tip applicator where product comes out in small circles. I was given the Light/Medium shade which ended up being a bit too dark and yellow toned for me,  but the product itself is creamy and works really well in conjunction with Revlon’s Colorstay liquid foundation. The soft applicator is also really nice and makes it easier to apply directly under the eye since it’s so gentle – that said, Revlon still suggests blending with your finger (use your ring finger as it’s easier on the skin below the eyes).

Overall, the product performs as advertised and I think if I were to try it in the lightest shade, Fair, I’d find it’s yet another great find from Revlon. It’s available at most drugstores for around $11 (as per Walmart.ca).

stephanie-isms: summer flings …

Whoops – it’s August 1, 2014. Where has summer gone? Better yet … where has my blogging gone? Ha!

I have been enjoying way too much of the summer and even more so … I’ve been having enjoying a steady rotation of good products to keep me looking breezy, beachy and pretty. Since we have hit the halfway mark … I thought it would be good to share my current summer loves …

Secret Refresh Body Spray in Citrus Breeze: a glistening, body complete with a bit of a afterglow from active movement (beach v-ball anyone?) is fabulous … but complete with stick to match … er … not so much. This citrusy scented body spray from Secret’s new Destinations collection is the perfect quick fix when you go from the beach to patio party. It delivers 48-hours of door protection … the perfect escape.

Philips Satin Soft Epilator: as a longtime fan of epilators, I’m in love with my new SatinSoft epilator which can be used wet or dry. Quick and easy to use, it leaves my legs smooth for at least 7 days before I feel even the slight peek of stubble. Compact and tiny, it’s also my ideal mate for travel. Bonus: comes with a dry brush to exfoliate the legs before removal!

Foreo Mini Luna: days spent out in the sun and hanging out can take a beating on my complexion regardless of SPF and the widest brim hat, so I’ve been treating my skin to this Ah-Mah-Zing deep-cleansing facial brush. My skin looks brighter and smoother with just a minute each morning and night. Two speeds for the most optimal cleanse. The best part: I’ve charged it once since I received it in June 2014 and it hasn’t lost any power since. Available at Murale!

Cargo Essential Lip Gloss in Rio: when the weather’s warm, I try to wear as little possible on the face, so a great lip gloss is the perfect “quick” makeup look. This Cargo treat is high shine and long wear which is exactly what you are looking for in summertime lips. Rio is also a great summer colour, a hint of orange which is a great switch up from pink.

Revlon ColorStay Moisture Stain in Shanghai Sizzle: again with the lips! If the agenda for the day is more meetings (on the patio) over wings and beer (on the patio), then I’ll opt for this pigmented and creamy colour. Red always makes a statement.

Stila Magnificent Metals Foil Finish Eye Shadow in Kitten: against my summer tan, I’m enjoying using this metallic sheen over the eyes all by itself.  The right amount of sparkle, I’d pair this with a hint of a black line.  Kitten is the perfect peachy pink nude for the eye.

Anastasia Pro Pencil + DipBrow Pomade: this is a one-two punch for the brows. I’m not one to do completely different brows, but instead prefer to give them a natural fill but still polished. With these two products I can achieve that look easily. The Pro Pencil is great for priming the eyes before shadow too. Bonus: Anastasia is coming back to Murale! It’s also available at Sephora!

Almay Smart  Shade CC Luminous Primer: when the temperature is right, I can make do without foundation or powder, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want my skin to look even. I’ve been using the primer before I head out the door. My skin looks brighter and healthier instantly. Plus it has SPF! (Yay!)

The Body Shop Vitamin E Aqua Boost Sorbet: you know that refreshing feeling of applying a cool, rich face cream after a day out and how it makes the skin feel relaxed and pampered. Well, this cream is it except it’s lightweight and mattifying so you can wear it before bed AND in the morning throughout the whooooole day. Um. Yes please!

NARS Nail Polish in Zakynthos+Shameless Red: a good mani-pedi during sandals+tank top season is essential. NARS has a new set of polishes available this August, that will not only look great now … but transition well into Fall 2014.   Zakynthos is my go-to neutral and Shameless Red is my “accent”.  All the new colours to come are fabulous, but what sets NARS new polishes apart from the rest : THE BRUSH! I love the rounded flat brush – its made painting nails mistake proof!

Urban Decay’s Lipstick in Mrs. Mia Wallace: again with the lips! But for a good reason. A statement red lip is always in season, hot or cold. In honour of the classic cult favourite movie, PULP FICTION, Urban Decay released the perfect creamy red bringing to life Mrs. Mia Wallace. How can a red lip not look awesome with the perfect white tank and and denim short combo?

recos from regina : revlon nail enamel

When I was growing up, the first nail polish brand I ever encountered was Revlon Nail Enamel. It was a staple in my mom’s makeup vanity when I was a child, and Revlon Red was one of the first nail polish colours I bought with my allowance as a preteen. As a teenager, my “go-to’s” were Toast of New York and Blackberry.

It’s a polish that promises to provide “gorgeous smooth, chip-resistant colour to nails” and last up to 10 days when used with the Revlon Base and Top coat. It also boasts an “exclusive silk-protein shield [that] works to instantly help even out the surface of the nail while rising above colour to automatically smooth away bubbles, streaks and brush marks.” Big claims – so I put them to the test with a new shade.

When trying out 440 Siren, a bold summery orange shade, I loved how quickly it dried between each of the two coats I had applied, and that there were no brush streaks. It also lasted almost 10 days. I received many compliments on how nice the colour looked, and it lasted through housework and visual re-merchandising at my day job. My nails were smooth and didn’t chip within those days.

The colour is perfect for the spring and summer, and can even be worn throughout the year when you want that pop of colour on your nails and toes. Revlon’s classic polish is available in 64 shades, and retails around $5.00 so it’s a great bargain for a great quality product!

Have you used Revlon’s classic polish? What’s your preferred shade?

stuff from (l’il) steph : revlon photoready kajal intense eyeliner+brightener

Blue. It’s one of those colours that I wouldn’t choose for myself. To this day, we still ridicule women in the 60s who chose to wear blue eyeshadow all the way up to their brows. The fact is that blue is by no means outdated. Blue is a bright pop of colour that can be wearable if done right.

The Revlon PhotoReady Kajal Intense Eyeliner + Brightener in Blue Nile* makes wearing blue easy. It’s a dual ended pencil with bold blue eyeliner on one side and an opaque white eye brightener on the other.

The pencil itself is not the most smooth or creamy. In fact, it’s a little hard and waxy but not in a bad way. The waxiness of the pencil adds to the staying power of this eyeliner. For me, instead of lasting 1-2 hours on my oily eyelids, this pencil liner lasts 5-6.

I love how you can use both eye pencils separately or layer one over the other to create a pastel blue.

To be honest, I don’t think I’ll be wearing this one on a daily basis, but it’s perfect for those days when I’m in dire need of a pop of colour and  this product is great for anyone who’s looking for good pigmentation and great lasting power in an eyeliner.
