A few months back I got my hands on YSL’s Touche Eclat and have been a devoted user since. Illuminating concealers work wonders under my eyes, and I’m not sure I can live without them at this point – that said, they tend to land on the pricier end of the beauty spectrum so it’s important to find a product that you’re happy to splurge on.
I had the opportunity to try Eve Lom’s Radiance Perfected Light Illusion Concealer, a new beauty brand for me and one that’s available at Murale (heyyy, Optimum Points!) and a tad lower in price point than Touche Eclat at $45.00.
It’s a pretty standard all-in-one concealer brush, with a click function that pushes product up through the brush. Right off the bat I liked the brush on this concealer, as it’s wider and flatter than what I’m used to and the bristles felt really soft. It made it easier to apply directly to my under-eyes, as I usually will put the product on my fingers, dab with my ring finger and blend out with an airbrush finish concealer brush (love this one from e.l.f.).
The colour itself was very pink for my skin so it was just a bit off (it doesn’t seem to show in the photo though), but that said I still got a good idea of how well the product performed and I must say I was impressed. It definitely brightened but not quite as much as Touche Eclat – I’d describe it as a concealer first, brightener second, which works well if you’re looking for a double-duty product.
Overall, I’m really interested in trying more from this brand and recommend trying this out, especially if prefer to rack up Optimum points over Beauty Insider points!

What brands do you use?
This, that, and you know … some of them …
Oh – okay … I have a bit of trouble with this mascara, and that eyeshadow …
and some of them’s foundation never matches.
Not a problem – I have tonnes of stuff that we can mix and match to make work for you!
I take plenty of pride in offering a wide selection of brands to my clientele ( and really, that’s why hiring a professional makeup artist for your wedding day is a must – we know the good, the bad and the ugly – we have a bottomless kit of brands and products that would cost you plenty of $$$ and time to replicate ). I have all the standard must-haves and cult faves and about 80% of my brides are well-versed in MAC foundation, Maybelline mascara, and Urban Decay primer … but very few are unaware of what I call the “luxe” touches.
“Luxe” touches usually involve a go-to item from a brand that the client hasn’t used before, deems as “a splurge item”, and may not have access too. For example:
While I may conceal and base with my tried and true foundations, I love colour correcting with my Bobbi Brown Corrector in Peach and brightening up the skin under the eyes with YSL Touche Eclat, and some Laura Mercier powder in my Undercover Pot.
Before applying powder blush, I give a natural dewy glow using a selection of creamy Becca Beach Tints for the cheeks – my favourites to use are Guava and Watermelon. And after using a shimmery powder blush, I might tone it down and blend it into the skin with a swirl of YSL Blush Radiance in either 4 or 6.
And for lips, I love plumping them up with the same lip pencil for everyone: Trish McEvoy Essential Lip Pencil in Baby Pink … and sometimes Barely There … I love how this brightens everyone’s lips naturally but also provides some shape. It looks great under most lip glosses and lipsticks – especially my MAC ones. Or if I am using a satin or matte lipstick on the bride, I’ll either dot a bit of Chelsea Girls Lip Lacquer by NARS to the centre of her mouth or a Chanel Glossimer lip gloss in a neutral pink/champagne shade.
Giving a little luxe to the bride makes her feel a little luxe … which makes for a great day, ( everyday ). It also makes her feel like she’s in on the “secret” … and who doesn’t want to be “in”? Yes?
What item in your makeup bag makes you feel luxe?
Everyone can benefit from a bit of blush, so it’s essential to add one or two or several to your vanity table to perk you up.
Blush can come in many formulations and finishes, and they can be fun to play with, but here are some essentials to build your makeup wardrobe.
Stila Covertible Colour
For me, I believe cream colour gives the most natural effect, so I have a large selection of creams sitting around. I like the Stila Covertible Colour because they have no shimmer to them which makes them wearable for any occassion. It’s a portable compact (plus you can add some colour to the lips) and my favourites are Gerbera and Lillium for the most natural look and if I want a pop of colour – Gladiola. You can apply this with two fingers and blend, or a sponge – your choice. Available at select Sephoras and Shopper’s Drug Marts.
Okay, everyone wears Orgasm and while I agree it’s a great colour – I actually no longer wear it myself. In fact I prefer some of the other colours like Deep Throat and Desire. I turn to these finely milled powder blushes to build intensity over my cream blush and also, when a little bit of highlight and shimmer is appropriate. I also really like Luster so look into that colour as well! NARS is available at Murale and Holt Renfrew.
YSL Blush Radiance
Mixing and matching blush is not for everyone – but sometimes mixing two colours can give off the most natural effect. This YSL compact allows you to swirl your brush over two colours before sweeping it onto your face for a well-blended flush. The glitzy gold compact is a perk me up in and of itself too! Available in 8 shades, I prefer No. 2 for everyday and No. 8 for when perky and pink calls my name! Available at Sephora, Murale, and Holt Renfrew.
… and the must-have for blush …
A blush brush!! You will have plenty of choices when deciding on a blush brush, but it is a must (holy crap – tongue twister). A proper blush brush is essential for exceptional and undetectable application and blending – so factor that into your budget if you don’t have one!
Tomorrow: the eyes …
