designer crush : marc jacobs

If you know me personally, you’re fully aware of my addiction to Marc Jacobs handbags and accessories. So it should not be a surprise that I was turnt up over the launch of his new cosmetic line.

During a visit to Bleecker Street earlier in the summer, I realized I was still too early for the launch of the Marc Jacobs beauty boutique which was a huge “womp womp” but justified a trip to Sephora upon my return home to line my makeup bag with a couple of select pieces from the line.

Since lipstick, as of late, is my weapon of choice (so easy!) I decided that I would start with two lip products. It began with one tube of lipstick  – the LoveMarc Lip Gel.

I hummed and hawed for about 30 minutes before deciding: bold and bright or classic and timeless.  As you can see from the swatches above, I chose the latter. The lucky colour that came home with me that day was Roleplay, your standard pinky rose (top swatch) and the perfect neutral to make your lips look happy and healthy. I am quite pleased with this lipstick. I think the key to any lip product is that the colour slides on easily and doesn’t dry out the lips. MJ gets a gold star for both. After a day of wear, the colour remained with minimal touch-ups and stayed true to its pigment.

It’s a rule that you cannot buy a lipstick without getting a lip gloss to match. Okay. So what … it’s not a real rule but it is what I tell myself to justify picking up two items instead of one. To complement my new lipstick, I chose one Lust for Lacquer Lip Vinyl from the line as well.  Again, so many colours to choose from ranging from bright and bold to soft and shimmery.  Since I wear gloss sparingly, I went with a pale pink that I could use to shine up Roleplay, change the intensity of darker lipsticks I already owned, AND that was completely wearable on its own. I went with Overprotected (bottom swatch on my hand). LOVE the lip vinyls. It really does give you the high shine without the goopiness. In addition, I love the applicator – its not your standard lip gloss wand which is firm and  narrow. The wands are wider and slightly flexible and have either an oval or tapered tip.

Paired together, I can wear these colours as easily as jeans and a t-shirt (see pic above). I’m prettily pleased. I do like the lip products from Marc Jacobs which in turn means that I will most likely be adding to my collection. I’ve got my eye on All The Way, Roll the Dice, Surrender Dorothy and Seduce Me.  And since it’s a rule to have a matching  lip gloss, I’m partial to Boom Boom, No Regrets and Studded Kiss. Le sigh.
