While I’m a huge proponent of bold, impactful lips no matter the occasion, every now and then it’s nice to lighten things up. Today, I’m looking at two lightweight lip products that come in handy when you want to add just enough pigment and shine for a soft and subtle pop of colour.
The first product is the Body Shop’s Colour Crush Shine Lipstick in 18 Sunset Romance. I must admit I haven’t tried nearly as much of the new Body Shop beauty products as I’d like, but back in the day when I was just discovering makeup as a young teen it was a go-to brand for me outside of the drugstore because it just felt so accessible. High-quality, yet not pretentious or intimidating.
This lipstick is what I’d call a low-commitment lipstick, and that’s a good thing. It’s a shade that almost anyone can wear, it’s easy to swipe on error-free and it’s sheer enough that if the application isn’t perfect, no one will be the wiser. It’s also incredibly moisturizing and can serve almost like a tinted lip balm throughout the day. The line offers a variety of shades in a sheer, smooth finish and all are infused with a rose fragrance.
If you’re not into lipstick and prefer a gloss, the new Essential Lip Gloss from Cargo Cosmetics is a great alternative. It’s a bigger bottle than their old gloss, so not only are you getting quality product from a trusted brand, but more of it. It delivers high-shine, moisture and great pigmentation, but not too much. It’s a thicker gloss but I wouldn’t call it the sticky kind that catches your hair when you’re going about your day.
I tried it in Madrid, a berry shade that definitely adds a bit of sparkle and colour but nothing too dramatic. Perfect when you just want a touch of glamour.
If you’re looking for a lighter alternative to a traditional bold lipstick or heavy duty gloss, these will do the trick. The Body Shop lipstick retails for $13.00, available in stores and online and the Cargo gloss goes for $16.00, available online.
