I got into hair and/or makeup artistry because… I grew up always doing art (drawing & painting). As I got older I got into more girly things and started wearing and getting into makeup. It was just something I always liked doing and I loved giving friends makeovers. Eventually the time came for friends to get married and I did the makeup for their weddings which led me to take makeup seriously and do it as a job. From there, I saw the demand for hair as I was going on makeup jobs, so I started playing around with hair and practicing on my mannequin head. The rest is history!
My favourite part about being a hair/makeup artist is… When a client loves the hair and makeup I did and it boosts their confidence it makes me feel good inside. I once had an older lady in tears of happiness and you could tell how confident she felt after she walked away from my chair. I also love dealing with everyday regular people and hearing about their lives and getting to know them. It’s more than just putting on some makeup and doing up someone’s hair – it’s about the relationships you gain from doing this job.
My dream celebrity client: I would have to say Jennifer Lawrence. She seems like the type who would be so easy going and easy to talk to. She’s just a genuinely nice and real person. I probably wouldn’t be so nervous having her in my chair. Plus, she has great style!
My secret weapon: Skindinavia Makeup Setting Spray. Sets makeup like a charm. All my clients rave that their makeup doesn’t budge the whole day!
My must-share beauty tip: Anyone who knows me knows that I am all about eyebrows. It’s the one thing on your face that pulls the whole look together. They are the “frames” to your face. If you’re in a hurry to run out the door, quickly fill in your brows and brush them through with a spoolie for a more natural look. Smooth on some tinted lipbalm and you’re ready to go!
