At the start of every year, awards season kicks off in January and gives us and endless stream of beauty and fashion hits and misses to swoon over and gossip about…but all of the chatter through January and February is forgotten when we finally reach the mother of all award shows, the Academy Awards.
Whether you’re a film buff or not, the show has something for everyone – music, fashion, beauty, entertainment – and this year’s definitely served up each of those things keeping us dancing, smiling, laughing and crying (full disclosure: the In Memoriam part gets me every time…and Bette Midler to top it all off this year? Please!) throughout the entire show.
We wanted to share our favourite looks from the big event – what do you think of them? Agree or disagree?
I love Oscars fashion just as much as any other beauty and fashion blogger out there, but this year, my focus is on all the beautiful women who rock short hair on the red carpet. Yesterday, I blogged Lupita but it bears repeating : the hairband – who says it’s just for the long-haired beauties? I think Lupita used it in just the right way : thin, clean and crisp as an accent to her hair – not a showstopper.
And moving along to Charlize Theron (whom, really, would look good with a bad perm or 80s crimp job). Talk about keeping everything clean and simple! An LBG (Little Black Gown) is never boring especially if she is wearing it. She kept her pixie cut shiny and smooth to show off her long neck and unbelievably symmetrical features. While the look seems understated amongst the updos and volume … I think she fits right in!
And let’s move on to everyone’s favourite young star Jennifer Lawrence. She’s new to the short hair don’t care club yet her red carpet look would have you believing that she’s worn short hair all her life! Sweeping her longer layers up and back in an effortless style gives the illusion of a tousled undo … but without all the bothersome bobby pins! Love it.
As I was watching the Red Carpet and of course the Oscars 2014 on Sunday night, I couldn’t choose just one lady who was my favourite look for the night!
My number #1 pick for the best dressed for the Oscar awards on Sunday is Lupita Nyong’o in the beautiful powder blue dress by Prada. The dress looked incredible on her. Her makeup and skin was flawless. I think that thanks to her, headbands will make a comeback in a big way!
Kerry Washington dressed up her best accessory, her pregnant belly in a Jason Wu amethyst coloured dress. She was well-dressed and looked very elegant with how her hair was styled for the Oscars. It was to nice to see her with a darker lipstick compared to her pale lip colours that she normally wears on most events that she attends.
Well, I can’t argue with any of the picks already listed here – they were all on my list – but one beauty look I have to say was stunning was Olivia Wilde. Aside from the fact she’s just a natural beauty no matter what she wears/does, she was rocking a bold cat eye with understated pink lips and a beautiful updo with loose waves. The look paired with her black and white Valentino gown oozed elegance and simplicity.
We want to hear your picks! Who have we missed?
