stuff from (l’il) steph: maybe it’s maybelline …

June 19, 2013By stephanie 3 Comments

It’s funny how time flies, huh? It’s June.

And not beginning of June … but like, near the end of June. I’ve not been the best blogger as of late, have I? But I have a great excuse: it’s wedding season. And the team and I are knee deep in wedding bands and bows …

But I don’t want to make you wait for your beauty bites.

So, I’ve enlisted a little bit of help … and when I mean little, I really mean l’il … as in Stephanie Lau, the pretty and petite blogger behind and the twitter handle @lilstephh. But don’t let her playful use of “lil” fool you … she’s got a big voice with opinions to match!

I’m really excited to have her join us on and I think you will really enjoy her reviews and thoughts on all the great products we get to play with in our beauty “closet”.  I’ve started her off with just a few products from our friends at Maybelline … but trust me, there is more to come … :) So without further ado … read on!

Yes, in the summer, less is typically more. However, an occasion always arises where a little BOLD is necessary. Vivid Lips, Strong Liner, and Show-off Nails? It seems like Maybelline’s got you covered with three products and three easy-peasy ways to pack some punch into your summer style. Here are my thoughts on the three:

Eye Studio-Master Duo 2-in-1 Glossy Liquid Liner in 500 Black Lacquer

The 2-in-1 aspect of this liner refers to the peculiar little foam knob at the tip of the applicator. One side is meant to create a thick line, but you can turn it on its side to get a thin one.

In theory this is great idea, but in practice I felt like the tip made it awkward to apply. Also, this stuff takes forever to dry so I have to patiently keep my eyes closed so that I don’t get a black line on the top of my eyelid. On the upside, when I wear other liners in the summer heat, they either flake off (…ick!) or form a lovely racoon-esque ring around my eyes. Even though it’s not advertised as waterproof, the intensity of the liner stays strong all day long.

Colour Sensational Vivids Lipstick in 875 Vivid Rose

When they first launched, I remember seeing the Vivids line in stores and telling myself that I’d have to be crazy before I wore anything from the line. Boy, did Maybelline prove me wrong.

After wearing this for the first time, I’m glad to say that I’m not crazy, but it was true love at first application. I’ve been blown away. It’s just…WOW. Wearing Vivid Rose makes me feel confident and a bit daring. It’s bright, fun, and neon with a slight glossy sheen.  The formulation is smooth and feels light on the lips, though slightly dying. Even if you’re not into bright lip colours, you can sheer it out for a hint of colour. No matter what shades of lipstick you’re into, I’d suggest checking these out. You just might surprise yourself!

Colour Show Nail Lacquer in 330 Tenacious Teal

Last but certainly not least, the nail polish. My Dad always tells me that my fingers look like Smarties when I wear coloured nail polishes. I laugh and then take it as a compliment because I love it when my nails stand out.

I gravitate towards neutrals in my everyday wardrobe, so coloured polish is a great way to spice things up. This particular polish in Tenacious Teal is like nothing I have in my collection. The blue-green depth of this colour whisks me away to somewhere I can feel the ocean breeze and laze underneath a palm tree. Back to reality, it’d probably look great with a tan even if I’m not on a tropical vacation. Tenacious Teal is opaque in two coats and has an impressive lasting power of 3 days with a top coat.

I’m currently enjoying all three of these bold and beautiful products, as they’re absolutely summer appropriate. Wear all three together or opt for just one. A little bold never hurt anyone!
