Just a little teaser from a photoshoot, produced by the amazing Paige Lewis,
and brought to life by a group of amazing wedding vendors and artists,
including BlushPretty’s very own Samantha Wilson, hair artist …
I love an eyeshadow in pencil form. All you have to do is colour within the lines (of the eyes) and blend out with a finger for a simple eye look. They can be used on their own or as a base to add intensity to another shadow. The CoverGirl Flamed Out Pencils ($9.99) are perfectly versatile in this way and feature 10 vibrant shades in the line.
Silver Flame (a shimmery gunmetal grey) and Gold Flame (a yellowy gold) are just a few that I’ve tested out. The pencils feature a gel-cream formula that is ultra rich. It has an odd cooling effect when applied to the eyelids, which is kind of great for those mornings when I’m feeling a little tired. These shadow pencils blend out beautifully but dry to a more powdery finish so that they stay put for 5+ hours.
A few issues with these pencils: Firstly, they’re advertised as being an eyeliner and shadow in one. It’s quite a challenge to get the pencils to tip sharp enough to line the eyes, but these pencils are perfect as eyeshadows or eyeshadow bases. Secondly, the product is so creamy that the tips of the pencils break off easily. So a little word of warning, use the product with care.
In a nutshell, the CoverGirl Flamed Out Shadow Pencils are easy to use, ultra pigmented, and long-lasting. As we approach the end of the year, these two metallic shades will be perfect for a holiday look.
Stephanie Lau is the creator and writer of FUN SIZE BEAUTY, a blog encompassing beauty reviews, handmade accessories, and the occasional food post. Upon discovering a fuchsia lipstick in her mom’s stash at age 12, she fell in love with all things beauty. She started her blog in November 2012 as a creative outlet to share her thoughts on beauty products and escape from the stress of school. Aside from blogging and beauty, Stephanie enjoys all things travel, photography, DIY, small business, and sample hoarding. An undergrad Accounting student at the University of Waterloo and an avid multi-tasker, on rainy days you can find her studying the Income Tax Act, watching food network, recreating makeup looks from magazines, and sipping on tea.
2013 has been all about new beginnings for me. It’s brought me a new city, new apartment, new job and a new opportunity to share my thought on all things beauty, so it’s only fitting I share with you my latest new “thing” – my haircut!
In mid-August things were finally starting to settle down after an exceptionally busy 6 months. So, naturally, I was craving my next big change. It seemed fitting it would be my hair – this was a new phase of my life, and I needed my look to reflect that!
My first question when I started to consider doing the deed was “where does one begin looking for a brand new hairdresser in Toronto?” The task seemed monumental – I wanted to find someone who could transform me, understand what I wanted and make me feel gorgeous! After I started writing for BP, I asked Stephanie one day for a recommendation as she was so involved in Toronto’s hair & beauty industry. It was then she suggested LBHair. I trusted Stephanie’s referral (have you seen her hair? She knows what she’s talking about), so I looked up the salon online and promptly made an appointment.
Once I had that all squared off, I was faced with my second question: what to do with this mop? After much research and consultation with my sisters, it was October 1st (last Tuesday) and I was in Loribelle’s chair armed with a mish-mash of photos curated by yours truly (thanks, Pinterest!). I chatted with LB, showed her what I hesitantly wanted and gave Loribelle the go-ahead to start chopping (after snapping my “before” pic, of course).
And chop she did! My gut was right in the end and the style I went for turned out wonderfully. As you can see, I went for an undercut with a dark purple-ish/black colour (it actually looks a bit like Stephanie’s – imitation is the highest form of flattery, they say!) and I couldn’t be happier. It perfectly encapsulates the new “me” and has given me a fresh boost of confidence, which was long overdue.
As for Loribelle – THANK YOU! Ladies, men, boys and girls, if you are looking for a truly talented and kind hairdresser, she is your girl. Her reviews online speak for themselves, but allow me to add another – LB was able to understand why this was more than just a haircut for me, interpret my vision and give me more than I expected. Check out her website (and make an appointment stat!) here.
Now, what to change next? Hmm…
