bp test drive : vasanti love brights gel matte lipstick

Recently, the bp blog team got their hands on Vasanti’s new line of lipsticks, the Love Brights Gel Mattes. Offering a variety of bold, matte lip shades that wear comfortably and for a long time, these are an amazing product from an even cooler company – founded by three Canadian women, Vasanti Cosmetics is quickly reaching cult status offering products that add radiance and glow to any woman.

We each snapped a selfie with our gel mattes on and shared a few thoughts on the lipsticks – needless to say, we were a happy bunch of beauty bloggers.

Laura A – Destined for Love

“I’m a huge fan of Vasanti lipsticks. The colours are always gorgeous, but my favorite thing is the guava scent! I loved that the colour had great staying power and that it also doubles as a subtle stain by patting just a bit on the lips. This baby glides on like butter! A winner in my books.”

Regina – Endless Love

“‘Hot! Georgeous! Beautiful!’ were the first three words that came to mind as soon as I applied this lipstick. When I think of Endless Love, it also reminds me of one of my favourite love songs from the 1980s by Diana Ross and Lionel Ritchie.

I was impressed how the deep red colour brightens up a smile right away and works great for every skintone. For a matte lipstick, I was surprised and happy that it kept my lips moisturized and never dried out throughout the day. I also enjoyed how smoothly it was to apply, and the colour remained strong after drinking a hot Chai tea, snacks and a pizza lunch.”

Mer – Unconditional Love

“Many matte lipsticks leave your lips feeling super dry and looking not so pretty. Not the case with this gorgeous lip colour. The matte effect is lovely and soft. The colour is vibrant and long lasting (and detracts from the new mum sleep deprived look that I am owning at the moment). The unique shape makes it easy to apply on the go. Love!”

Morgan – Puppy Love

“Right off the bat I loved how unique the bullet was for this product – it makes it really easy to apply. The colour glides on effortlessly and doesn’t dry out your lips like a lot of matte products do (and if there’s a lipstick variety I know well, it’s mattes). The pink was the perfect soft, baby pink and I’m officially obsessed. Looking at the other shades in the line, I know this won’t be my last Vasanti lipstick.”

things we love : mattifying products

July 24, 2014By DJMC

Although we’re heading into the last weekend of July (yikes!), we still officially have a solid two months left of summer to get through, and that means we’re not putting away our shine-combating products any time soon.

While catching up on my reading, I came across a recent roundup of mattifying products from Elle Canada that has me excited all over again for new things to try to eliminate my 3 p.m. afternoon t-zone meltdown. It includes some of my old favourites (hi, Make Up For Ever!) and some products I’ve yet to test drive – something tells me my next trip to Sephora will be a pricey one.

Do you have any products you rely on to manage the summer heat? What’s missing from the slideshow?

dare to wear: bite beauty high pigment lip pencils

April 1, 2013By stephanie 1 Comment

Last week I mentioned that I was relying heavily on lip colour to make a beauty statement in as little time possible. And when you rely heavily on something, like lipstick, its a really good reason to spend some money and stock up on some new colours.

Knowing that I wanted to try a new brand and experiment with bright colours, I turned to Bite Beauty – a homegrown brand (go Toronto!) available exlusively at Sephora – and their all natural approach to lip colour. Bite has quickly become a makeup artist and beauty blogger favourite thanks to their high quality, high performance products that are safe enough to eat. Not that anyone eats their lipstick for lunch, but as they say, women do ingest a few pounds of lipstick yearly.

Naturally, as a big fan of chubby pencils or crayon colours, I was immediately drawn to Bite’s High Pigment Matte Lip Pencils. It meets all my lip colour criteria: matte finish, chubby and easy to grip form, easy slip over the lips (no drag), and bonus: its a twist up – no sharpening needed.

There are twenty colours available, from neutral to bright and bold, but I picked up the two newest colours: Violet (aptly named it is a bright lavendar violet) and Corvina (a pinked up coral).

I debuted Violet first and I am happy to announce it was love at first Bite. Or sight. Perhaps both. One thing I noticed, while yes the finish is matte … Its a little bit softer than your typical matte finish or formulation. While there is clearly no shimmer or sheen or gloss with this colour, it wasn’t a completely flat or dry matte. A full day’s wear was easy peasy with no chapped lips, dried lips, feathering lips, etc. Just good ol’ soft lips with plenty of longwear colour.

Over the weekend, I wore Corvina with the same results – long lasting colour, soft lips, easy wear. That said, while I am happy with the colour, I prefer the look of Violet over Corvina … But both will get plenty of use I’m sure.

Dare yourself to try one of these electric pencils from Bite Beauty this spring. The colours and finish are fitting for spring/summer beauty.
