recos from regina : olay total effects 7-in-one cc cream

November 4, 2014By DJMC

As I get older one of my skin concerns is fighting any signs of aging.

Aging?? Me?? Yes, my youthful looking self is concerned with my skin as I am getting older. It is bound to happen after all! Now when I look in the mirror up close, I am beginning to see fine lines, dark circles and wrinkles under my eyes.

To address these concerns many women like myself have, Olay came out with Total Effects 7 in One Dark Circle Minimizing CC Cream. This product promises instant skin perfecting coverage and correction to reduce the appearance of darkness under the eyes – it certainly had my attention.

What caught my eye right away that it had a built-in brush applicator. The applicator is a click brush so as you click it, the CC cream is dispensed. The bristles were soft enough that it didn’t bother my skin as I was using it to apply the cream, and it blended very well into my skin.

The end result: the product moisturized under my eyes to help the dryness around it, and while I didn’t find it reduced the appearance of dark circles, it helped brighten up my under-eye area and it helped even out my skintone.

Olay Total Effects 7 in One Dark Circle Minimizing CC Cream can be found at Shoppers Drug Mart and Rexall Drug Stores for $32.99.

makeup monday : what happens in miami …

July 7, 2014By stephanie

As you can tell by my Instagram account, if you happen to follow it,  I am in the midst of working/vacationing in beautiful Miami. It’s my home away from home … and I have been enjoying every minute.

Whenever I travel – whether across the border or overseas – the objective is to travel light and return with slightly more. Or much more. Or whatever I think I can get away with.

Here’s a glimpse of what I started with: (in advance, my apologies for such sub-par photos … I’m doing this all off an iPod and the pictures look so much better on a tiny screen than they do on a full size computer. le sigh.)

My makeup essentials includes a few essentials from Chanel – a pressed powder and highlighter/blush combo from the Les Beiges collection; a Stila eyeliner in a bright Miami-esque turquoise/green to add some fun to the eyes at night; Clinique mascara for obvious “I’ve for no lashes” reasons; my Anastasia Pro Pencil which does wonders for the eye area; my Shu Uemura brushes, because I love how they apply makeup for me; and bobby pins to keep my hair off my face in this heat.  I also brought some Bite Lip Pencils (not pictured) and my Tom Ford eyeliners.

I also brought some other fun skin and body care items, including my new Foreo Luna Mini to massage and cleanse the skin each night after dirty days at the beach and pool; Olay Fresh Effects Exfoliating Wipes (the husband loves these as much as I do that I had to bring two packs); and Secret’s new Hawaii Citrus Breeze Body Spray and Anti-perspirant/Deodorant, because … well … it’s Miami, it’s hot, I sweat, you get it.

I have to add that these three items have been great for vacation use! The Luna Mini makes cleansing the skin after a day at the pool or the beach like an extended spa facial. Plus, it makes my skin glow which is a bonus with the slight tan I’m getting. It’s tiny little self is so portable so easy to use! The Olay Fresh Effects are my quick clean up of choice. It removes grime and dirt easily, and exfoliates really well. My skin feels instantly clean. Lastly, Secret’s new body spray is my new summer BFF. After a shower, after the pool, after feeling like I’ve sweated up a storm, I’ve packed this scented spray in my cabana bag religiously since I’ve gotten here!

Now on to what has mysteriously made it’s way into my carry on for my return home later this week:

So, while my morning’s consist of pool or beach side fun, my afternoons usually involve the mall, the beauty department, and plenty of makeup wipes and tissue. I found this sleekly cased brand, Nudestix, at Bloomingdale’s and was curious. Nudestix is all about makeup in crayon form – MY FAVOURITE. The pencils are divided into three categories: the eyes, the lips AND cheeks, and concealer. I picked up two lip+cheek pencils and two eyeshadow pencils … I’m on the search for the concealer pencils as they didn’t have my shade in stock. Sad face, yes, but only until I opened my tin and saw the extremely ample mirror tucked inside and the sharpener. I’m excited about this brand.

The other great thing about coming across the border is Ulta. I shop this store ALWAYS in New Jersey and Miami … so it was one of my first stops when I arrived. Being a big Stila fan since, like … 1998 … I grabbed these three nude themed palettes made exclusively for Ulta.  Each comes with two cheek colours (a mix of blush, highlighter or bronzer depending on the palette) and four eye shadows.  The cost – just $20 USD. At Kohl’s – which is another great store not only for makeup but clothes as well, I grabbed a highlighter and shimmering bronzer from The Balm. These pretty babies can be used on the eyes or cheeks.

Back to Ulta (and actually Bloomingdale’s too), I restocked on Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Concealer. I’ve been using these as my base in my bridal kit and love the coverage. It’s true, a pin prick goes a long way and mixed with moisturizer or a mixing medium, they can be sheered out for lighter coverage.  I also restocked on my Trish McEvoy Eye Base Essentials. I love this primer as I feel it gives the eyes a nice even base to start any eye look – from natural to smokey.

Oh shoot – I cannot forget about this travel brush set from Japonesque.  I actually didn’t need this at all. I just liked it. And it was $20 at Ulta. The coolness factor : all five brushes fit in the sleek tube. It’s so sleek – I thought I lost it when really it was tucked in the bottom of my purse.

The last … or at least current last until my next shopping trip … of my haul is the Not Your Mother’s hair care line. I’m loving my newly permed hair and so happy that it is manageable in this Florida heat … but again, you can never have too many good arsenals in your hair care kit. At a whopping $4.54 USD at Wal-Mart … I snatched up one of everything! I’m currently loving Kinky Moves, which I’ve been applying to my waves while damp and letting air dry.

So  – this is nothing new – you know, me splurging on beauty while away. I’m pretty sure I will need a second carry on because outside of these purchases I may or may not have made but totally did purchase are some cute tops and bottoms which will also need to find a home in my luggage. I’m sure everything will play along fabulously … yes?!

musings from morgan : olay bright on schedule

May 22, 2014By DJMC

I have been plagued by dark under eyes for as long as I can remember. I distinctly remember noticing them as early as age 11 – is that weird? Perhaps, but I can’t think of a time I haven’t been looking for ways to conceal them, brighten them and make them go away.

I haven’t really explored the world of under-eye creams, mostly because I’ve always had a hard time believing they could really work. That, and I’m not the best at maintaining a solid skincare routine for general maintenance, let alone adding in extra steps for smaller problem areas (side note: Naomi from In the Buff is keeping me on track, ever since my facial with her!).

So, when the Olay Fresh Effects {Bright On Schedule!} Eye Awakening Cream came across my desk I was very intrigued. For starters, the packaging was perfect for someone like me. No fuss, super cute and easy to throw in with my daily go-to beauty products. I could easily see myself quickly swiping on a few dabs of cream before diving into my makeup for the day.

The product is designed to cool and brighten the skin underneath your eyes to help with dark circles or puffiness (both are issues at their worst for me first thing in the morning). It’s oil-free and is infused with honeysuckle, white tea, and cucumber extracts to help it work its magic.

I’ve been using this product now (almost) daily for over a month and I must say – colour me impressed! I genuinely notice a difference in the colour under my eyes when I use this cream. The tri-roller ball feels awesome when applying as its super cooling and helps to really open my eyes and the cream absorbs quickly so I’m not lingering waiting to get started on my makeup.

If you’re looking to build it into a daily regime you already have in place, be sure to put this on after you cleanse and moisturize the rest of your face. The product retails for $10.97 at Walmart, which is a steal if you ask me given the results this little tube of magic produces. Definitely check it out if you want to look bright-eyed and bushy-tailed in the morning!

musings from morgan : olay fresh effects

March 5, 2014By DJMC

I’m always on the hunt for products that make my skincare routine easier, whether that’s through saving me time or tackling more than one issue in one product.

Olay has an entire line of products aimed at doing just that, while encouraging us to “embrace a world without filters” and be our uncensored selves. You may have seen the funky packaging on the shelves by now too – it’s their Fresh Effects line which carries products from makeup remover wipes to moisturizers, and cleansers to sunscreen.

I was given the opportunity to try out two products: the Out of this Swirled Deep Pore Clean + Exfoliating Scrub and the S’Wipe Out Refreshing Makeup Removal Cloths (cutest names ever).  I used the wipes a few times to test their performance on removing a full face of makeup, and I used the scrub over the course of a week to see how it performed on my combo skin.

First up were the wipes, which right off the bat I liked for their convenience. The pre-moistened wipes are something you can throw in an overnight or gym bag, and mine are already housed in the latter. They smell great, were gentle on my skin and did a decent job of removing my makeup. They didn’t remove every trace (my mascara, for example needed something a little more heavy duty) but if you’ve just got a little bit of makeup on they’re good for quick removal.

The exfoliating scrub I had was the Honeysuckle and White Tea scent (which smelled delightful). The product has two components – a moisture-rich cleanser ribbon paired with an exfoliating microbead ribbon to cleanse the skin and minimize pores. The product has an easy-to-use pump which puts about a quarter-sized amount of product in your hand.

This cleanser is definitely on the gentle side, and I think is a good day-to-day product if you have few skin problems. I, on the other hand, lean towards cleansers that will manage the oil in my skin and set me up to stay matte all day, so I’d recommend this if you’re looking for a basic daily cleanser that both gently exfoliates and moisturizes.

I think the entire Fresh Effects line has a ton of great products to check out, and I’m definitely curious to try the Shine Minimizing Cleanser after trying out these.

Have you tried anything from the Olay Fresh Effects line? What do you like from the selection of products?
