recos from regina (sort of …) : #ambushbeauty

March 10, 2015By stephanie

What happens when you spend the afternoon with a couple of ladies of BlushPretty????

As BlushPretty makeup artist Laura A. Tran puts it #ambushbeauty.

I had the chance to spend a few hours at the mall with BlushPretty’s very own Stephanie Anne Daga and BlushPretty makeup and hair artist Laura Tran. The must stops during this trek was MAC Cosmetics, Sephora and Holt Renfrew. During our stop at Sephora I asked about foundation recommendations as I lack the knowledge of knowing which foundation shade would look natural on my skintone.

Once my foundation shade was determined, a sudden ambush beauty makeover occurred:)

This ambush beauty makeover was a very kind treat as mornings in my house is busy with getting 3 kids ready for school and myself ready for work. My daily makeup ritual is very basic. It consists of mascara, lipbalm, lipgloss, and eyebrow product.

Stephanie and Laura began choosing out products and applying them on my face. I like how they tagged teamed and worked with each other to achieve the look they wanted for me.

Before they created this look, the makeup that I was already using was Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real Mascara and Maybelline EyeStudio Brow Drama in Deep Brown.

To create the look for #ambushbeauty, the following makeup products used were:

-Urban Decay Weighless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup in Shade 6.0
-Urban Decay 24/7 Concealer Pencil in ATF

-Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Sin
-Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Mushroom
-Urban Decay Super Saturated Ultra Intense Waterproof Cream Eyeliner in Perversion

-Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Streak

-Stila Fields of Florals Convertable Color Palette

What was amazing about this #ambushbeauty makeover was how Stephanie and Laura gave me informative tips on how to create this look in 5 minutes. This look is great for an everyday look for work especially in the industry that I work in.

musings from morgan : glide-on glosses

November 6, 2014By DJMC

If there’s one thing that never goes out of season or style, it’s easy makeup that’s made to transition well from day to night. As much as I love my bold matte lipsticks, there’s a special place in my purse for light lip glosses that lean a little more neutral in shade – some days I just need an effortless look to pull together, especially when I’m headed to client meetings or going to be out and about for hours on end.

Two new glosses have landed on my radar in the last few weeks I thought were worth sharing – Stila’s All Day Vinyl Lip Gloss in Terracotta Vinyl, and Almay Color + Care Liquid Lip Balm in Cataloupe Cream.

I’ve previously reviewed Stila’s gloss and wrote about its formula here, so today I’ll focus merely on the colour – it’s a muted rosy brown that’s totally reminiscent of a classic 90s lip, a trend that’s made a surprising return this year. It’s an easy way to make a bold lip statement with a light, neutral feel and the product itself is highly pigmented and long-wearing. Yes, a little sticky, but I find with this particular product a quick blotting of the lips after applying helps reduce that.

The second shade worth checking out is Almay’s liquid lip balm in Cantaloupe Cream. It’s a peachy pink shade that’s very light in pigment but really comfortable on the lips. It’s not a long-wearing product, but given the temperature is dropping and we could all use a bit of extra moisture on the lips this time of year, it’s a nice way to add a hint of colour while keeping your pout hydrated.

The Stila gloss comes in at $32.00 at, and Almay’s gloss can be found for $8.99 at

musings from morgan : stila vinyl lip gloss

August 13, 2014By DJMC

I’m always up for trying a new long-wear lip product, since as much as I love putting lipstick or gloss on I hate having to constantly check and make sure it’s still in place, not bleeding, rubbing off, and so on. When I can put something on and know for sure it’s not going to budge, I’m a happy lady.

Having not tried Stila’s lip products before, I was anxious to give the Vinyl Lip Gloss a whirl as it’s one of their Stay All Day products (a key phrase for me) and I usually stay away from gloss since it tends to move around and rub off quite quickly. I was able to try the product in a totally fitting shade for me, Merlot Vinyl, since I looove a deep & vampy red, especially with fall on the way.

The first thing I noticed was how seriously opaque this product was! Don’t let the fact that it’s a gloss fool you into thinking this is a light, sheer product – it packs a ton of pigment, which allows it to leave behind a bold stained effect even after the glossiness has faded.

It glides on smooth, and given that it’s so pigmented you do have to be careful about where you’re putting product. Stay inside the lines! It’s super moisturizing thanks to ingredients like seaweed extract and organic green coffee oil, a major selling point for fans of this product.

From a long-wear perspective, this gloss definitely leaves colour on your lips for extended periods of time but the glossiness itself seems to fade much like a typical lip gloss. If you want the high-shine effect to last, keep it with you and touch up throughout the day, but if you like the stain effect and the touch of colour sans shine, this will absolutely stay put. I tried both looks by applying as intended, then blotting the shine away – I think I prefer the blotted finish myself.

Overall, the gloss delivers on pigmentation and longevity, but don’t expect the high-shine to last all day without any touch ups. It’s available at Sephora and Murale for $32.00 CAD.

musings from morgan : magnificent metals foil finish eye shadow

August 6, 2014By DJMC

I’m the kind of girl who either goes for a bold lip or the dramatic eye – one or the other, never both together. You probably know by now I favour the bold lip, but when I want to dress up my eyes I really want to go big. Intense eyeshadow, dramatic winged liner, falsies are all my go-tos to create an all-out look, and since I’ve discovered Stila’s Magnificent Metals Foil Finish Eye Shadow the eyeshadow bar has definitely been raised.

The eye shadow is a cream-to-powder product that comes with a small vial of Stila’s Stay All Day Liquid Eye Primer and a small tray to mix the products together for an opaque, long-lasting finish that loads your lids with sparkle and metallic goodness (without feeling too heavy at all).

I tried the product in Comex Platinum and found it applies easily using your finger, or you can use an eyeshadow sponge applicator – I wouldn’t recommend a brush though. It definitely calls for solid application in more of a pressing motion than a brushing, as it’s the best way to ensure all of the product gets transferred to your lids without falling. Stila also has a specific applicator you can buy if you try these and find you want to wear them all the time.

I was really impressed by the lightness of the shadow itself – I was definitely expecting something heavy on my lids, but that wasn’t the case. As promised, it delivers bold, opaque coverage that lasts all day and is perfect for long nights out on the dance floor. I’m looking forward to playing around with it more and using it with other shades and shadows to see how it looks beyond just an all-over finish.

It’s certainly not a everyday product (unless you work somewhere awesome) but when you’re looking to kick things up a notch and really go all-out with your eye makeup, this is the perfect shadow to do it. It’s available at Sephora and Murale for $42.00 CAD so it’s definitely on the high-end of eyeshadow products, but it’s high quality and a little goes a long way.

Are you interested in trying out this product? Where would you wear it?

stephanie-isms: summer flings …

August 1, 2014By stephanie

Whoops – it’s August 1, 2014. Where has summer gone? Better yet … where has my blogging gone? Ha!

I have been enjoying way too much of the summer and even more so … I’ve been having enjoying a steady rotation of good products to keep me looking breezy, beachy and pretty. Since we have hit the halfway mark … I thought it would be good to share my current summer loves …

Secret Refresh Body Spray in Citrus Breeze: a glistening, body complete with a bit of a afterglow from active movement (beach v-ball anyone?) is fabulous … but complete with stick to match … er … not so much. This citrusy scented body spray from Secret’s new Destinations collection is the perfect quick fix when you go from the beach to patio party. It delivers 48-hours of door protection … the perfect escape.

Philips Satin Soft Epilator: as a longtime fan of epilators, I’m in love with my new SatinSoft epilator which can be used wet or dry. Quick and easy to use, it leaves my legs smooth for at least 7 days before I feel even the slight peek of stubble. Compact and tiny, it’s also my ideal mate for travel. Bonus: comes with a dry brush to exfoliate the legs before removal!

Foreo Mini Luna: days spent out in the sun and hanging out can take a beating on my complexion regardless of SPF and the widest brim hat, so I’ve been treating my skin to this Ah-Mah-Zing deep-cleansing facial brush. My skin looks brighter and smoother with just a minute each morning and night. Two speeds for the most optimal cleanse. The best part: I’ve charged it once since I received it in June 2014 and it hasn’t lost any power since. Available at Murale!

Cargo Essential Lip Gloss in Rio: when the weather’s warm, I try to wear as little possible on the face, so a great lip gloss is the perfect “quick” makeup look. This Cargo treat is high shine and long wear which is exactly what you are looking for in summertime lips. Rio is also a great summer colour, a hint of orange which is a great switch up from pink.

Revlon ColorStay Moisture Stain in Shanghai Sizzle: again with the lips! If the agenda for the day is more meetings (on the patio) over wings and beer (on the patio), then I’ll opt for this pigmented and creamy colour. Red always makes a statement.

Stila Magnificent Metals Foil Finish Eye Shadow in Kitten: against my summer tan, I’m enjoying using this metallic sheen over the eyes all by itself.  The right amount of sparkle, I’d pair this with a hint of a black line.  Kitten is the perfect peachy pink nude for the eye.

Anastasia Pro Pencil + DipBrow Pomade: this is a one-two punch for the brows. I’m not one to do completely different brows, but instead prefer to give them a natural fill but still polished. With these two products I can achieve that look easily. The Pro Pencil is great for priming the eyes before shadow too. Bonus: Anastasia is coming back to Murale! It’s also available at Sephora!

Almay Smart  Shade CC Luminous Primer: when the temperature is right, I can make do without foundation or powder, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want my skin to look even. I’ve been using the primer before I head out the door. My skin looks brighter and healthier instantly. Plus it has SPF! (Yay!)

The Body Shop Vitamin E Aqua Boost Sorbet: you know that refreshing feeling of applying a cool, rich face cream after a day out and how it makes the skin feel relaxed and pampered. Well, this cream is it except it’s lightweight and mattifying so you can wear it before bed AND in the morning throughout the whooooole day. Um. Yes please!

NARS Nail Polish in Zakynthos+Shameless Red: a good mani-pedi during sandals+tank top season is essential. NARS has a new set of polishes available this August, that will not only look great now … but transition well into Fall 2014.   Zakynthos is my go-to neutral and Shameless Red is my “accent”.  All the new colours to come are fabulous, but what sets NARS new polishes apart from the rest : THE BRUSH! I love the rounded flat brush – its made painting nails mistake proof!

Urban Decay’s Lipstick in Mrs. Mia Wallace: again with the lips! But for a good reason. A statement red lip is always in season, hot or cold. In honour of the classic cult favourite movie, PULP FICTION, Urban Decay released the perfect creamy red bringing to life Mrs. Mia Wallace. How can a red lip not look awesome with the perfect white tank and and denim short combo?
