The Hair Affair ...
Last week over on the ‘gram, I posted two photos (as above) of hairstyles I had done recently - one done for as a trial run for a bride to be, and the other for a bridesmaid in a wedding. Both looks were similar in style and inspiration, and I did both looks within a week of each other.
The inspo? Mrs. Hailey Bieber on her wedding day.
And I’m not mad at it. I’m in love with it ... and having a brief affair with it, wanting to do it at least once within every bridal party that steps through our doors.
I think this classic, sleek and smooth (but not plastered to the head) bun is timeless and elegant. With framing layers at the front that are whisper light and tuckable, it showcases a beautiful face without being fussy.
The key tricks here were the middle part that is lifted at the root, but not teased; a rounded crown area; and most importantly a bun that is smoothed for shine, but not overly round and perfect in shape.
For a tool a just used a large barrel iron to soften the hair and give it some movement before twisting into the bun into shape. I kept the products minimal : heat protectant spray for prep, a bit of gel to smooth hairs and flyaways, and hairspray to hold for the day.
This style looks best with elongated, slim dress styles : think silky sheaths, lacy fitted bodices with tight sleeves (or sleeveless) and a trumpet skirt, or structured column dresses.
